I started having trouble with starting my bike recently, and identified it down to the problem with the starter clutch. So I hunted around the forum to see what to do, found this post http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=49519.0 and started following the steps.

I remove the side panel and this is what I see this:

I guess I now have to change the alternator.. Any idea why this could have happened?

I had taken the bike to a garage recently, and since I was having charging problems, I asked the guy to check the alternator. I had followed the steps on the wiki to rule out regulator as the problem. But the guy tells me that the alternator is fine but the regulator needs to be changed. I haven't changed the regulator yet (use the tender to keep battery charged). So I guess I got ripped off by the garage once more. :-|

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ....

Yea you gonna need sliding hammer ... which the last time I wanted it ... was no where to be found.

Do not do what my friend Jebz did and goober the crank threads trying to get it out. Well it looked worse than it was, it tapped out fine. But it did give him a lot of grief. Get a sliding hammer.

Cool.

That is called goats disease.I used a M14x1.5 bolt that has threads all the way to the head.Use plenty of anti seize on the threads.Make sure the bike is on the center stand.Remove the bolt holding on the rotor. Then install the new bigger bolt to press the rotor off.I put the bike in 6th gear and get someone to hold the rear brake pedal down. Then I use a 1/2 inch break bar/rachet to tighten up the bolt and push the rotor off.It will take some muscle to get it off.If your clutch slips then you will need to seek out someone with an impact wrench or slide hammer. When you reinstall the new rotor, make sure the inside of the rotor and crankshaft is completely clean,no oil,no rag lint,no old thread locking compound. You will need red loctite on the rotor bolt and it has to be torqued to 81-96 ft lbs.If your starter clutch has seized to the crankshaft see this thread of mine. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=56037.0 Also check your starter motor and make sure you can turn it with two fingers. It will have some resistance but should turn easily. If it doesn't turn easily, you probably have Starwalt's disease and need a new starter.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Thanks Buddha and Ben2Go.

I just read through all the goats related posts, and then the service manual so I have some idea what to do now. One of them being going around hawking stuff to supplement my student income to buy that bloody rotor.

Anyone selling a rotor in UK or France and can ship it? :P

Or any idea which website sells it? I could only find stators on Electrosport and Electrexworld. Should I trust the sellers I see on ebay?
