Bike runs poorly all of a sudden

Here's the situation:

The other week I ran my bike without turning the fuel on (note: I have my petcock modded so the vacuum is removed and it's ON/RES/OFF)

When the bike stalled I turned the fuel back on and it's been running rough ever since. One cylinder doesn't run well at idle/low RPM.

Ok, most likely the bowl dried and the jet got fouled. Worst case is I pull the carbs and clean the crap out of them.

But is there any cleaner I can try as a first pass? It would be nice to save a couple precious summer hours and not yank the carbs if I don't have to.

Thanks

It probably will just need to be shaken as it fills up with fuel.
So put it in on/res, and on the center stand and shake it as it fills up. People run out of gas all the time, so it cant ruin anything.
Cool.

Sounds like a float may be sticking.Pecking on the float bowl with the handle of a screw driver will dislodge it,sometimes.I had one that would hang shut often and I had to replace the needle and seat.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

stuck float - good call, I'll try that. Thanks, will try this tonight.

You're welcome.Hope it's something simple like that.I hate chasing a problem that never seems to be caught.

You could try loosening the drain screws and then turn the petcock on and let a bit of fuel flow through, it might dislodge some dirt in there. It has worked for me in the past.

It was a missing vacuum cap on the left hand carb (from doing the petcock mod). This is the same thing that caused my bike to run bad at the start of the season.

Put the new one on with a spring clamp. Hopefully that'll do the trick.
