cheng shin

i'm on a tight budget but i need tires very bad. are cheng shin tires just too aweful to consider? should i save my clams and just get bt45's?  :dunno: thanks!

CS makes a fair high performance tire for short $ BUT the cheapy tires are just that: CHEAP.  I'd avoid them but if you do buy them I am sure you'll be OK.

BT45's in stock size will make your bike handle sooooo cherry.

Tires are cheaper than parts and hospital bills...

If you have to go there anyway, look at Maxxis. They are made by Chin Shing but use modern carcass and compounds. Cheaper and supposedly good enough for street use.

The Kenda tires are better economy tires, I think.  I'm running one on the back of my newer 02 GS that the dealer put on.  I'm favorably impressed, but will put new tires on in spring.  Radials again.

The new Avon AM51/52 tires are just as cheap as Chinese tires. You can get a set delivered to your door for about $125 including shipping from Discount or Tire Planet.  Much less than BT45 or ME330/550 tires in OE sizes.  Has anyone tried these yet?

PS- New Maxxis tires are getting a better rep than their Old Cheng Shin brand tires like James pointed out.  Have seen favorable write ups on their new radials too.

I had a couple sets of Chen Shin Barracuda V's on my GS. That is what it had on it when i bought the bike, so I replaced that set with the same ones. I wasn't very happy at all with them, they wore out really quickly. I never had any problems, just that they didnt last very long. The next time around I got Metzlegers, I cried when I paid for them, but they are a much higher quality tire. Yes, I do realize my spelling is atrocious. :lol:

If you want a Kenda, I have an almost new one you can have for $35 plus shipping. It's a 150/70-17. My buddy had it on his B4 and took it off after a few hundred miles because he rides pretty aggressively and the compound is hard as hell. Remember when you were a kid and you had your first 2-wheeler with the hard plastic tires - then you rode the neighbor kids bike with inner tube tires? Yeah, it's sort of like that.

i just had to put out for a maxxis,  CS is ok, for some tires, stay away from the marquis (ducking from srinaths aim) i have found them little less then ok on the rear, and down right dangerous in wet weather, the barracuda is a good tire, but watch the heat cycles if you ride hard. i just mounted the maxxis, i will let you know how it works. i paid 68$ retail for mine.

ive heard of some quality issues with the cheng shaZam! tires, not extremely dangerous but, im kinda leeery of them, i paid $64 front, and $81 rear for my irc tires, sorry cant remember the model/type though, :dunno:  but they were in stock size, but, (up to a point), you get what you pay for, so if you can afford quality, or can wait for it, by all means....., however if you absolutely need tires now :x id be inclined for the kenda's

my big ole 82 GS750E had barracuda's front and rear and held up nicely, grip was fantastic untill i got them too hot on cloverleaf ramps, but then it was a very heavy bike. once the tires turned blue they didnt stick as well when hard cornering. held upgreat in rain, and milage was better then i expected as i tortured the hell outa the rear.  the High max hooks up pretty good, more of a general purpose tire not so much for cornering, but never had an issue with it on rear of both Yamaha maxim 650 and GS750E both heavy.
