Chain question

I picked up my bike a few weeks back and then (unrelated) fractured my right hand 2 weeks later. So in the downtime, im cleaning it and learning it and upgrading/updating a few things. Ive read the last 20 pages in this section and soaked a good bit of info but i have a question. Ive got all my full riding gear.

My PO said he recently changed sprockets and chain. But eventually i know i will have to do it also. It may be sooner than needed as I might swap it out for a 14/45 set. Im not worried about fuel mileage as anything is better than my truck that is fully customized and gets about 10 mpg.

So with that being said, my question has to do with the chain. I know it is a 520 chain but when buying one, do they come in a standard pre-measured length or do i have to cut and custom fit it?

My truck BTW....

Stock chain length is 110 links, you can order that from most distributors. For 14/45 you'll need a different number of links, there's a calculator link on this page: http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Sprocket

This calculator says you'll need a 112 link chain, and according to ebay those can be found. However, it couldn't hurt to order a longer chain and cut it down, that way you can make sure that you'll have enough links, instead of just trusting the calculator.

sweet truck. details/pics of the custon CAI please  :D.  and what's the air compressor for?

weedahoe

Air compressors serve two functions. One is to blow the two air horns I have and the other is to be used with the air hose i keep with me for any issues i might have on the road. Not everyone with a shop can work on  36"all-terrain tires mounted on 24'' rims. I have them internally balanced with 10oz of beads from http://www.counteractbalancing.com/counteract/. I thought you guys used beads for motorcycle tires too?? So anyway, even though I also carry a can of Green Slime and Fix-A-Flat just in case, they are my last option. I make sure where ever im at, im not stuck at.

Nah, most balancing done on bikes is with little weights attached to the wheel itself.

Imagine if you did an equivalent amount of mods to your GS500?

Actually the air horn alone would be awesome.

LOL....Ive got well over 15k in mods on my truck. However, no mech has ever touched my truck. Im planning another cam swap later in the year. I do all my own work. Ive got tools our the rear including parts washers, blasting cabinets, welders and even my own powder coating booth. Im not new to projects or custom work.

Thankfully, Im just starting with bikes. Im sure 5k+ in mods on a bike would get a really awesome bike. Ive got a lot of plans for my GS5 and i know they FAR outweigh the worth of the bike but its a project and I like projects.

What fun is that? I would never let a shop use external weights on my truck. I dont plan on having them on my bike rims either.

THX. Im certainly a Halo advocate. LOL

My truck is built to run fast. However, if it had a 5/7 drop and smaller 17" rims and 29" DR tires, it would be a lot faster....LOL

But overall, it is a head turner.

Me too. The game has partly formed who I am today, as sad as that may be.

Also makes me want to buy an Icon Variant helmet very badly.

The pulls that I've been to all had a gas category, never thought about trying it out?

Never thought of it but even though my truck has 4.56s gears, I still would not attempt anything like that unless I had 5.13s
