The inability to un-install IE was one of the reasons MS was/is in court for antitrust issues.

AFAIK Internet Explorer is not removable per say because it is the same engine that powers the File Explorer. MS was supposed to release an update to try to resolve this conflict but I haven't kept up on Windows issues so I don't know if they did or if it works.

I would just make Firebird the default browser and try to forget that IE is there.

You really can't uninstall IE. There are some tools that will hide it well, but it is an integral part of Windows (no matter what MS says).

I would not suggest removing IE from your machine - as stated before, the government mandated patch to "remove" IE is just a way of hiding it.  It never really goes away.  I would suggest going into your prefs and changing your default web browser and media player to be whatever you use now, be it Opera or Mozilla or whatever.
IE won't harm you (much) if you don't use it, and there may be uses for it in the future (some pages & programs need IE to load properly).
Congrats on trying an alternative browser - you found out that life doesn't have to be 100% microsoft.

well i was always a big fan of earlier versions of netscape.  It's just when it got to 6.1 and 7.0 that i quit using it  because i found it way too clunky anymore.  I downloaded firebird on both the pc and laptop today and couldn't be happeer.  It flies and does evertyting i need it to do.
