female threads are shearing

This has happened to me twice now, where I'm screwing something in, tightening loosely by hand before even getting out the torque wrench to tighten to spec, and the threads in the receiving hole for the screw bust loose.  The first time was on the camshaft clamps, and I luckily had a spare one laying about that seems to work.  This time it's one of the bolt holes for the oil filter cover, and that's kind of harder to replace without spending a truckload of money on a new crankcase housing.  The bolt hole is now completely smooth.

I ain't no gorilla, I know I can't be torquing these things too tight unknowingly.  The other two bolts went in and went a lot tighter, no fuss.

wth, what can I do to fix this?  I've got gasket maker/sealant around the edges of the filter cover, but it would be nice to get a third bolt in there, eh?

If by "smooth" you mean flush then I'm not to sure how to get to it other than drilling into it and trying to tap it out.  If it's sticking out enough to put vice grips on it, (this happened to me) you can easily get it out with some patience and a hammer tapping against the vice grips.  Went to the dealer and got a new bolt I think less than $5. Used loc-tite and put it in where the old one was, let it sit overnight and its been working fine ever since.  About 2 years.

That filter cover is supposed to have studs. The aluminum will not stand the abuse of a bolt being inserted/removed every few thousand miles

That's interesting.  There are no studs on this, just 3 bolts.  The parts diagram shows that there should be studs, though.

That is because somebody F----'ed up the studs...stripped or pulled them out by overtightening.....then didn't know how to put in new studs..so figured using a bolt would be ok....but it is not ok...because a bolt is not good for that application...a steel bolt going in and out of aluminum is gonna wear out the aluminum  and strip the aluminum threads as soon as even slightly overtightened.........but it sounds like the female threads were already damaged....probably the first time somebody overtightened....

So now the  fix is :

Three helicoil....three new (OEM) stud...three new (OEM) acorn nut...

The helicoil is steel...so now the steel stud will be into steel threads...put on some lock stuff too, so the acorn nuts will screw off and the studs will stay in.....and DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!!!

Yeah, I ordered stock studs and nuts today (boy does that sound weird).  I guess I'll have to wait until they get here to find out what helicoils I need to order.  Dimensions for those studs aren't listed anywhere I could find with a quick googly-goo.
