Last Monday night I was riding and a girl changed into my lane, right next to me. I didn't hit her, but went down. Overall, I am not too bad, lots of bruises and some road rash (jeans aren't very abrasion resistant).

Just heard from the adjuster today, it's a write off. He stopped at $4k in damage. Now I need to see what they offer me, and how much the salvage is. I might buy it back and fix it up using the parts from my parts bike.

I have to say, so far Progressive has been pretty good to deal with.

Yup, she was pretty freaked out. LAPD took down her info, and she was flat out saying it was her fault, hopefully that is documented in the police report.

At least she owned up to it. Dont see much of that any more. That bike is certainly fixable though.

Doesnt look too bad.. 4K for that damage. Though they are pricing it on retail parts replacement.

If you need a shop may I suggest "All Industries Perforormance" in Lake Balboa/Van Nuys. White Oak & Sherman Way. They are pretty decent guys to work with. They fixed my bike up for under 800 bucks (insurance quote was 2500)

How is that 4k worth the damage to the bike? As long as the frame didn't get harmed everything else should be easily fixable...

Looks like your frame sliders did exactly what they are designed to do...

5.11 tactical pants dont offer that much more protection :( Atleast your gear got it and not your skin... hense why i think all those idiots wearing short sleeves and flip flops should be smacked a couple times in the head.

Insurance companys don't "fix" anything, it is all quoted parts and labour to be replaced...adds up pretty fast at shop rates... :dunno_black:

Later.

Because OEM mufflers are 1200$

I have a 2009 that knocked over on the right side and I could have easily totaled it out, but I was willing to let some things go for unpaid (since the bike was in good condition).  I instead took the max I could (w/o totaling the bike) and walked away with a $2600 check and got to keep the bike.

Fixing the bike on my own will cost approximately 800$ and that includes a slip on Yosh if I want it.  The OEM has a small scratch that is pretty unnoticeable and I haven't decided if I want it to be louder than stock yet.

Just a thought... maybe you can work something out that allows you to keep the bike and collect a nice check!!

I assume the bike runs fine and most of the parts that need repaired look like easy fixes or are superficial.

I agree with lucky4034; try to keep the bike WITHOUT having to total it. A CLEAN title is worth a lot more than a salvaged title... Talk to the insurance agent and find out what your options are; you can buy/sell/trade for most of the parts you need here, which will allow you to avoid getting into bidding wars on Fleabay...

Good luck with this; let us know how we can help you, and I hope you heal quickly.

Geez didnt realize it was that overinflated for OEM parts... I have replaced 80% of the stuff you have damaged (that i can see in the pics anyway) and spent less then 200 dollars total...

Make sure you turf the helmet and don't try and replace the visor and reuse. It will be weak at that point of impact now. Shop for a new one  :thumb:

bombshelter13

Why did they deem that 'totaled'? It really doesn't look that bad - new bars, controls, gauges, and headlights and it looks like it'd be nearly good to go, barring some scratches on the case that look pretty cosmetic.

The adjuster says the frame is bent, and after talking with him (he races on the weekends), I believe him. I am sure the OEM list price on the damaged parts is what he is saying. I have a ton of parts, including a frame (I had a parts bike that I stripped and was selling here), so I think I have most of the parts (including a frame) to fix the bike.

The complication is I don't have a title for the other bike, it was bought off of eBay. I am going to see what the DMV says.

The good thing is they are going to give me $value of the bike, plus list price for all the upgrades, so I should get a decent check.

Re: the Salvage title, I honestly don't care that much about it, I pretty much considered this bike a write off when I bought it, it is my first bike and I was warned not to get the bike I wanted at first, since I would probably drop it at some point. I do like the GS though, so we will see.

I did see a '05 SV650 on CL for cheap ;)

pandy

Glad your body made out as well as it did! Sorry that your bike didn't come out so well (isn't it amazing how fine they can look and how damaged they can be!)

SV650 is an OUTSTANDING second bike (no bias here at all  ;) ).   I had the same sort of crash on my SVs, but she (the other driver) didn't miss in my case. Fortunately, no bent frame (bent fork and other broken bits and pieces). The insurance company was going to total my baby, too, but after getting the estimate lowered, I got a check, and friends helped me fix my boy. He's not quite as perfect and purdy as when I first got him, but he's in fine shape. Engine guards/frame sliders are SO worth the investment!!!!!

That totally sucks about the bent frame; I hope the DMV can help with the other GS.  Hope everything heals up VERY quickly!

Bike doesn't look like a write off but everything is a write off these days. I was in accident last year and still in a 50/50 dispute with the stupid woman who hit me. That court case is going to take a while.

Glad you're ok! I'm investing in some motorcycle gear!

As soon as a bike has a bent frame it is automatically a write off, regardless of how Cheap the other damage may be repaired.

True, which means the bike should be dirt cheap to buy back and salvage/sell the non-damaged parts. I'm looking for a good condition engine!

Twism86

Damn, Im actually surprised you have full insurance on the bike. I would assume most people with older GS's would just have liability like me.
