Insulation under the tank?

Has anyone ever tried to put insulation under the tank to help keep the heat from the engine making the tank so hot?  I'm in D/FW and the temps have been above 100 degrees for 39 straight days, so when I get on my bike to ride home from work, the tank is already hot and then add in heat from a 30 mile drive and by the time I am half way home, I can barely touch the tank with my legs without having burns there or to my berries.

The heat will probably cause most any adhesive to fail.It just seems like to big of a safety risk if it falls off while riding.

Good point.  I would want it to be removable during the cooler months, so I would likely devise a method of installing it without adhesive; if that is even possible.

I thought about using thin gauge aluminum sheet there to try to insulate against the Houston heat but never put anything into motion.  I'd sure be interested in your experience if you try it and get any decent results cause it is ShaZammming hot.

You can get this:

Though once on, why ever take it off?

Let me make a wild guess: you tank is painted flat black? maybe the sun is making it hot? If your moving, there would be enough air to keep engine heat from the tank.

Move to a cooler climate?  :icon_lol:

I did for the first time get a 1st degree burn on my thighs when getting on Flick last week. My bike had been out in direct heat for a couple of hours. Our heat index that day was 113 + humidity. I threw my bicycle shorts on underneath no big deal. I've never had it when I wear my riding pants but again both are black and are just too hot for this time of year.
