uneven idle

Hey guys,

The last couple of times I've taken my bike out ('90 GS500) I've had some really strange idling issues.
Sometimes the bike will idle around 1K rpm and other times it will idle around 4K. I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason to it. I've tried adjusting the carb with the idle adjust screw and that does help some but I'm still concerned since I haven't had to adjust that before.

EDIT:
I've been playing with it a bit and I think it's a broken coke cable. I've adjusted the idle so it seems to idle about 1.5K all the time now but it doesn't respond to changes in the choke lever at all.
