Don't fantasize about a bike that can be made good.  Yes, I have an SV650, and it's a fantastic bike, but it's an economy bike.  The forks and suspension are archaic.  I wouldn't bother buying an SV with the intention to put GSXR600 stuff on it -- just get the GSXR600.

So we got my new chain and 15T sprocket in yesterday and were going to put it on today.

Now remember this bike was sold to me by my father in law to help me out during hard times. He traded for it since a 250 wouldn't be the best thing for commuting to work on the interstate. It had 13k miles on it and now its up to about 18k.

So we get the sprocket off the spline and we see that the spline of the output shaft is completely toast. WTF

As you can see the damn spline is almost gone from the output shaft. The stock sprocket barely had any teeth left on it.

Here is a video of the stock sprocket on the output shaft.

And another video of just the output shaft itself

So we are looking at options, I need a way to get back and forth to work and this is my only transportation since my wife uses my truck for school and to get my son around.  For temporary we are going to weld the new sprocket to the output shaft so it stays, while we look at other options for repairing the bike.

If the bike was this badly taken care of how bad do you think the transmission is? should a total rebuild be in order for engine and tranny? If so how much am I looking at for a engine we can rebuild while I ride this one till it dies?
