Hi everyone!  I bought some LP flush mount signals that have been converted to LED by Custom LEDs.  They double as a turn signal (yelleow) and running light (blue)) and its a 3 wire setup.  Im looking to find the best place to wire up the running light when ignition is on.  Any help would be appreciated.

The running can connect to the brown wire that goes to the running light in your headlamp.

HOWEVER...... depending on where you are, you can get pulled over for blue running lights. Blue is reserved for cops. I know - I got pulled over but the cop was really nice about it. That's why I have white running lights. Amber is OK. Red running lights I think are OK only on the rear half of a vehicle. Check your local vehicle codes.

If you stay with blue: Put it on a plug. So if you do get pulled over, you can unplug them and say "OK, fixed it. Sorry officer I didn't know"

I probably have the same ones you have. See pictures of Suzi where they're on the side of the fairing. They do make for good running lights AND an added turn signal visible from the side, as the front and rear ones aren't visible from the side of the bike.

I probably should have checked on the blue LEDs before buying.  I suppose I could change them out if needed myself instead of ordering the conversion with the blue running lights. :cookoo:

I bought a dozen white LEDs at Fry's and replaced the blue with white myself.

Maybe they upgraded the board, but I found the running lights didn't go off when the blinkers came on because they rely on a transistor and voltage difference to kill the white (aka blue) LEDs.
The turn signals, after going through everything, are about 1 volt less than your power (i.e. if 12v, then turn signals get 11 volts). So I put in a small reed relay, triggered by the turn signal line, to hit the blinkers with a full 12v (using the voltage going into the unit for the running lights so didn't have to add any wires coming from the unit) and then the running lights went off when turn signal on. No biggie if you have the same problem. I just wanted things to work right and look cooler.

I tested on the bench with a fresh 9v battery when I noticed the running lights didn't go off. It worked on the bench with a 9v battery. So that's when I measured the voltages. I think it is the flasher relay that gives the 1 volt drop or that the left and right are connected through the indicator lamp and that may cause a 1 volt drop to the turn lamps. Maybe an electronic flasher unit would solve it or now, an LED for the flasher indicator light. I have them working so I haven't gone back in to try other solutions. Thinking back, I suppose a small resistor in series to the running lights would have worked, too, to drop that voltage to the same as what the turn signals get.

Remember: no biggie if they don't go off. They're designed to go off and I wanted them to work right.

if you have a Naked Bike just like mine, unbolt the headlight and take it out,

you will see lots of wires. If i'm correct, there's a big blue connector and
bunch of wires connected to the blue Connector, if you check the wires,
there's a small connector (not connected to anything) taped up to those
bunch of wires, that's where i tapped my Driving Lights. It gives out +12V
when you turn on your bike

use a tester to check it. if you don't have a tester, use one of your LED bulbs,
connect the Black wire to the negative, then connect the Red Wire to that
Connector, then switch on your bike, it should be good

Regarding about GS500F Faired Bike, i'm not sure where it is but mostlikely,
its almost the same location. Just look for a Connector that's taped up to bunch of
wires that's not connected to anything

It is a brown wire. Naked have it in the bucket like you said.  "F" has it connected to the tiny running light. Connect to the brown wire. Then they go on if you switch to PARK so you should see it when you get off the bike and go "Oh, crap - I put it into park"

Thanks for the info guys.  The bike is in the shop for a while for crash protectors and upgraded Sonic Springs.  When she comes home next week I'll do the lights.
