FOUND THE FORKS I WAS LOOKING FOR; now looking for a good shock. I like the idea of the SV650 raising the rear and I'm a big guy (240#), so stiff and tall are good. Plus I'm headed in a slightly ADV route with this build, so a bit of extra ground clearance would be most welcome. Open to suggestions/offers. I had a yellow SV650 one bought on ebay, but the seller bailed.

Original thread follows.

Bought a mothballed bike that has some pitting on the fork tubes. I'm debating putting some more interesting forks on, but if I can get a great deal on a clean, straight, unpitted, unscored pair of stockers, I'd be down with that as well. Please let me know  your price shipped to Seattle, 98106. Thanks!

So.......
You're in White Center?  Have you thought about being part of the West Seattle GS500 Club?
We've been called the biggest parts whores in the area - maybe even west coast - for GS500's.
Let us know your needs. Maybe we can help and wrench together.

Bought a pair off Steezin_and_wheezin. Been in touch with fellow W. Seattleite GS owners. Wow... go internets! Get ready for a work party in a week or two when all my parts come in. Beer's on me.

Cool. Looking forward to meeting in person and wrenching some bikes.
Bike cave is all set up for opening up beers

Good you got forks ... you go to adidas's place with bad forks ... you'd prolly end up leaving the bike there to add to his GS harem ... up to 30 now adidas ?

Cool.

Tidy setup. Talking my language. Friday I bought a fork brace, Ebayed an SV650 shock and bought Steezin's forks; today I ordered up new tires, fork springs, fork gaiters, K&N lunchbox and filter oil/cleaner, new clutch and throttle cables, and fork seals.

Got a bit of work in front of me... good to know there's some community in my 'hood. Gonna make a runner.

I've got another set coming, so that makes 3 sets to rebuild. Got 1 set of springs, another coming.
We could make a day of rebuilding and installing forks. :icon_lol:

@ adidasguy: I like it. Also, my ebay guy on the SV650 shock bailed. Anyone got an extra one of those lying around? Not married to the SV, but I am a big guy and liked the idea of the extra lift for the rear. Maybe that or a GSXR one would do the job. If there's one locally, that'd be killer. Stocker is sacked out pretty bad, bike barely stands on kickstand, let alone managing road irregularities!

If scottychop or centuryghost don't want the Kat shock I took off of Trey, I can put you next in line for it.

steezin_and_wheezin

got an 08 gsx650 shock for sale. i'm waiting to hear back from one person, but i'll put you on the list for second dibs

i test fitted the gsx650 on the parts bike. it didn't fit with the stock gs knuckle, and the gsx knuckle was already on my '04. so i pulled it off the 04 and sized up the gsx650 shock and knuckle, fit like a charm. its definitely a taller and stiffer shock. i'd say with the shock and knuckle it'll raise the ass by 1-2 inches

i'll keep ya posted
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

steezin_and_wheezin

shock's sold, and all the ones on fleabay have gotten a hefty price jump. no less than 50 w/o knuckle

I got two yellow SV650 ones coming in the mail. After I posted this, I went on ebay, made a "best offer", which I rather dumbly didn't realize would be binding (but of course it would, duh). Right after I did that, I registered over at SVrider.com and ended up getting one for basically shipping cost. So I'll have an extra to throw into the Pay It Forward pool once I have this thing together.
