TPS Critical?

So I checked the TPS on my 2006 while I had the carbs out for mixture setting and shimming.  The orig owner had taken the bike in for a warranty claim for high and hanging idle and they cranked the TPS to "fix" it.  I found the TPS with a normal value at idle but with about 90% of that value at WOT across the appropriate pins.  I reset it to 76% at WOT as suggested in the manual and the WIKI (damn those screws were TIGHT!

My actual numbers - 4.99 k ohms across the appropriate pins initial value, 4.4 k ohms across appropriate pins at WOT.  Set WOT value to 3.79 k ohms and had to move the TPS quite a bit from where the dealer had it.

anyway, the bike runs much better now - don't know if it's from the carb work or the TPS adjustment.  Anyone know how sensitive the bike is to TPS, and I'm surprised someone hasn't found a sweeter spot than factory for best running.  Thanks.
