Fuel coming out of tank petcock regardless of screw position--95$ PART?!?!

Anyone know where I can get one cheaper than that?

What could be wrong with it?

Can you elaborate a little bit on what kind of leak you are having? Is gas leaking out of the petcock regardless of if the petcock is set to off, on, or prime? Is it leaking from the space between the petcock and gas tank? Give us a little more information and I'm sure I can figure it out or if I'm too dumb for it then some one will chime in and have an answer for you.

It's not the frame-mounted petcock, it's the tank-mounted petcock.

It just seems like the screw isn't making a tight enough seal to prevent fuel leakage when it's set to the horizontal "off" position.

In the end this only really sucks when working on the bike since obviously fuel coming out of the tank isn't a problem for daily riding

But after dumping in all this time and effort rebuilding the carbs and fuel lines I feel like this little thing is going to drive me crazy. Plus, now I have gas on my shoes.

Oh ok. I understand what you are saying now. Unfortunately, it sounds like you will just have to bite the bullet and replace it. You could look on here and see if any of the part whores have one they would be able to get rid of. If not, I would check ebay and some of the online stores like bikebandit.com.

you can get replacements for 30-50 bux, try turning the screw the other way just as a test

Check with Adidasguy, if memory serves, he has several tank petcocks. Have you taken it out and taken a look/disassembled it?

Old bike barn sells a non-oem tank petcock for $30.

It is rare for tank petcocks to leak so a good use one should cure the problem.

Is that a screen over the petcock? Like a filter? When did that become standard on the in-tank petcocks?

I believe the screen has always been on GS petcocks. Can't say for other bikes.

Always been there. Should always have one. Keeps bugs and other crap that falls in when you fill the tank from getting into fuel lines.

This is awesome, but it says 97+ models and I have a 95. It looks exactly the same to me, so I think I'm going to pull the trigger unless anyone knows there's an issue with fitment!

No fitment issue the 95 and 97 tanks are the same.

Keep in mind that Suzuki parts lists break the models up and some parts vendors do the same without knowing that many parts are the same for all years.
I believe the year-breaks are
1989-1996
1997-2000
2001-2002
(2003 not listed in USA)
2004-2006
2007+

They break the list when certain things were done that make the succeeding years not 100% compatible - like changing the front brake banjo bolt threads and brake bleeder size, changing ignition to have throttle position sensor, emissions control changing carbs & stuff, etc. Or minor wiring changes and so forth.

Fortunately there are enough people with multiple bikes that we can always verify if certain parts are the same - even though a parts vendor says different in their catalog.

You can check a parts list and often find the same number or parts have been changed and they note the old and new number as in:
CLIP - 09401-11415 (replaces 09401-11407)

Example: 1989-1996 Fuel chicken parts list
FILTER UNIT, FUEL - 44300-01D10

And the 1997-2000 parts list - same part number
FILTER UNIT, FUEL - 44300-01D10

2007-2009 (as an example) still same part number
FILTER UNIT, FUEL () - 44300-01D10
