Can't get my GS500F to start

So I have had my GS500F about 3 years, it is a 2005 with about 6800 miles. The bike was stored for about a year when I was deployed. Since I got it back, I changed out the fluids, put in a new battery (old one was dead)  road it up and down the street a few times and noticed it was running a little rough.  About 3 weeks later I tried to start it up to move and and it wouldnt even crank over. The lights work fine and don't look dim.  Jumping it didnt help.  It is a brand new battery but when I try to turn it over all I get is this whinning noise, almost like when starter teeth are ground down.   Here is a link to a video with the same noise that mine makes.

Does anyone know what is wrong?  I'd Like to see if I can narrow down the problem and do it myself or at least be able to save the labor times of having a shop figure out what is wrong.
