Hey I'm not going to be upgrading for a while, but I have my eye on the FZ8.  Anyone have some general thoughts on this one?  Saw both it and the Triumph Street Triple in person, and the FZ8 just looks like a higher quality bike.  And by my understanding it has hydraulic valves so no adjustments there.
Good day to you!

Just hit PV last weekend, nice ride.  Drop a line sometime.
Good day to you!

Rode one last year at a Yamaha demo ~ lots of jam on that one. Wish Yamaha would put the cross-plane design in some more bikes, though.

It's that cool thing the bike does when you twist the right grip.

Biggest problem the FZ8 has is the price of a used FZ1.

Sport Rider did a write up in the Oct. edition.  I would have to ride both to compare, but on paper, I like the Street better. It is 41 lbs lighter out the box, and has adjustable front shocks. It seems like the FZ8 needs and immediate suspension upgrade on both ends, if your going to ride it like you stole it.

any other comments on that bike?
I am VERY SLOWLY starting to look at other bikes and like both FZ6 and FZ8 but read much better reviews of FZ8 because it supposedly have much more usable power. More street friendly than FZ6.

I am kind of overwhelmed by a thought of having 800cc and 106 HP though...

I dig the fact that it is a naked bike. Rider mag. reviewed it earlier this year:  http://www.ridermagazine.com/2011/manufacturer/yamaha/2011-yamaha-fz8-road-test/

Bike only goes the speed you tell it to.

From everythin I've read the fz8 has a very predictable/linear powerband.  Apparently the inner two cylinders are designed to produce low/midrange torque/power, while the outer two deal with upper end power primarily.  So a street engine from the start, rather than race inspired.
Good day to you!

We did discuss this bike elsewhere a small whiles ago - with TTfour...

Basically you are getting a resleeved FZ1 engine. And compared to the FZ1 the FZ8 is actually Heavier. But let's face it, with the hories available that weight different won't mean to much to normal riding around on the road.

For naked bikes it is similar in horse power to the Kawasaki Z750 and good old faithful Honda 919. And of the Z750, Honda 919 and Striple, I found the 919 was the more comfortable and thus more suited to the longer distance type riding I do.

The FZ8 was brought out to compete with the Z750, cause the Z750 sells gangbusters in Europe and if you ride one you might understand why.

As for having a hundred horses and being wary... good. But the most important thing is... Rider Maturity (not to let the power go to your head) and Throttle Control. Without either you're a stat.  With, you can handle any size bike.

I myself am going on the Team Moto ride by the river test ride day on the 9th Oct to test ride the FZ8N and the Street Triple. I'm sort of leaning towards the street myself but till I sit on both I won't know. I'm doing my shopping testing for next year when I upgrade myself.

Bring some cooling pads for your butt when you ride the Striple. The exhaust heat comes up through the seat quite bad.

Gonna keep the GS?

OH dam didn't know that about them. Interesting, I think I'm second for the day on it so it hopefully will not be to hot...

I'd like to say yes I'm keeping the GS but the truth is I don't know at this point. It all depends on how and when the 260Z gets back on the road and what I've done with the other cars. If I've ditched the other two cars for one better family car and have the zed back on the road then yes I'm keeping it. If I've still got the other two cars and the zed isn't rolling then it will have to go. Gets down to a space, rego/insurance, How many vehicles I'm allowed to have by the wife, plus the almighty dollar issue. I have a plan but I've not mapped the critical path yet on it.
