first post on here, been using the site as a resource for long enough, figured I should join. I just got my gs earlier this year (NOT my first bike ;)), its a '98 with 42k on the clock, bone stock. Here's before and where I'm at so far:

Should make for a good winter project, lookin forward to seeing how i end up putting her back together.

I'm thinking street fighter-esque, minus a crazy tail or bobbed seat. I've been eying a set of pro tapers and definitely going to replace the headlight with something like a v rod's or smaller dual lights. going to repaint the wheels gold with a brushed lip, paint the tank, forks and front fender black, as well as fab some kind of new tail section, like 2nd gen sv650 or any style r6.

I had to rebuild the carb when i got it, but since im going to put a pipe on it too i think i'll be jetting it and doing something to replace the airbox as well. What I'd like to do and what actually gets done before next year are two different things, but I think that's a good start for now.

cbr: I have all the stock parts, if it breaks your heart to see them collect dust on my garage shelf, i will happily sell them. They are dated and i bought this bike with every intention of giving it a face lift. I don't exactly feel like I'm painting over the Mona Lisa, if that is the implication...

I'm good on parts but thanks!  I hope you keep updating so we can see how it comes along all the way to the finished product!  I mean some people tear a bike down, swap a tail and then get bogged down with some other project and keep everybody on hold while they waste time with an old busted bikehauler or something.

Aside from fork seals, a chain and a few misc things, the bike is in good running order, so most of the mods I'm planning are cosmetic and fairly easy (tail swap excluded), definitely doable by spring, if not before.

what ya going to do with the belly pan and the light fairing? if your considering parting with them, could you let a fella know?

sorry everyone, not enough hours in the day, and lately i've only had about one day a week to tool around with this thing. the wheels are to be stripped and painted soon, as well as the tank, then it should be about ready to go back together. but here's where i'm at so far:

New 7/8's pro tapers
+6 rear sprocket
new EK chain
forks resealed
dominator head lights
ebay markers
obnoxious scott grips

Need ideas for the tail, and i want to keep it a two up bike.

decepticon, i will sell most any stock parts, i'll get you some better pictures of those fairings asap.

Oh boy, everyone and their neighbor will want that chin spoiler and cowling if you're not going to keep them! They're as good as gold!

cbrfxr67

Looking good!  Can;t wait to see where you go with the tail,....

I'm not a fan of the street-fighter style dual headlight but everyone has their own idea of what they like, so keep it up.
