So I'm a new proud owner of a 2000 GS500, and have dubbed her "Diamond in the Rough".  She was sitting for two years on the coast of CA---uncovered :(  So needless to say, she needed to be pulled apart and brought back to life!  After a thorough flush and clean it resulted in her running strong (and a new battery)!  I have been disgusted with the tail end of this little bike, so after searching the forum and getting some good feedback I decided to venture into my tail tidy project!  I have the stock flashers and headlight from my 07 DRZ SM that I felt was hideous on the DRZ but would compliment this little Diamond.  I purchased a clear tail light lens from Clear Alternatives.

Before:

So I pulled out the clear bulbs and replaced them with amber ones (which will do until I figure out how to get red ones or if LEDs will work)

I pulled of the license bracket and gave it a coat of black spray paint that I had in the garage.

I flipped the taillight so it flowed smoothly, mounted the license bracket upside down to bring the plate upward and flush with the taillight. I used a Dremel to cut away the extra plastic, it worked nicely!

Finally I drilled a hole on each side near the existing space where the flashers were mounted (the flashes I'm putting on are a different style of dual mounting)  Cut and rewired the old and new flashers and WOW it looks sharp!

True dedication isn't about how diligent you are but what you're willing to sacrifice.

Time for a new chain  :icon_eek:
Hey Keith!
A new chain is def on the list of musts, although it's right below paying the $400 in back fees for CA registration  :o I'm willing to accept donations at this time towards her list of replacements, lol!  Untill I get some more $ to pour into this "Diamond in the Rough", it will be just stuff I can do with what I have in the garage...I'm excited for the day I get to take her out legal and sound! Thanks for the feedback on the chain though. :thumb:
