Like many riders always say "Its not if you drop it but when you drop it" well I dropped my bike today at a stand still. Normally I wouldn't have trouble holding the bike up if i'm sitting on it but my battery died and i was taking it off the road as fast as i could in the middle of traffic  (my fault again, left my keys in my bike thought they were in the off position and when i went back to it they were halfway between on and off, almost kind of stuck and the lights were on) The right side of the fairing is the only damage, there is however a huge crack and a slightly damaged ego here. :( My questions to all of you guys are, where can i get the lower right side fairing? If I do purchase it, will it come painted like the old one? Average price of one? I'm also contemplating just converting it to a naked style, which i don't mind but am not sure what procedure to follow in order to do so.

I'd suggest just taking the lower fairings off.
its pretty easy. three screws or whatnot on each side, and then I think you can slip the whole thing off the front. you dont have to separate the two halves.

That way, you keep a windscreen. Good thing.

I'd still recommend you spend $100 and get R&G sliders to put on "properly". You'll drop it again eventually. make sure you dont damage the ENGINE this time, when you do.

I dropped my bike and cracked the fairing in three places around the indicator.. All hope is not lost!
There are motorcycle bodyshops that do plastic-welding and re-spraying cheaper than it would cost to buy a new fairing.  To give you an indication of the cost, my upper fairing is going to cost $50 AUD for the plastic welding (one hours work) and another $50 for the full respray of the panel...

Hope this helps...

Or just streetfighter it. The entire style of the bike is designed around the naked look. The GS500F headlight looks pretty sick on a naked bike too, imo.

My headlight fairing was cracked around the indicator when I bought it. Plastic welded it myself with a 40W soldering iron, really not that hard it you want to have a go yourself. Lots of tutorials on the net.
I plastic welded it from the inside only. You can see a fracture line on the outside but it's not the obvious.

How easy is it to find everything I need to make it a naked style. I like the look of it a lot more that way.

scratch

if you're not worried about looks, and it's still safe to ride, scratches and cracks can be a good theft deterrent.  I'd paint the damaged part yellow.

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

Find some legos that are the same color as your fairings, and from the reverse side, melt them with a hair dryer and seal up the crack.

Yeah, I remembered that article wrong, you need to dissolve it in acetone first and then brush that mixture onto the fairing.
Read this:
http://www.helmethairblog.com/tips-and-tricks/tech-tip-fix-cracked-fairing-with-lego/

"Here is a tech-tip you don't see every day; repair your cracked fairing with Lego®. I haven't actually tried this, but stumbled on the tip on a Danish Moto Guzzi site. Apparently you can repair cracks in your fairing by using a paste of Lego® dissolved in acetone. The idea is to take a glass jar, pour some acetone in it, and dump a few Lego® blocks in the acetone and wait for it to dissolve into a caramel like paste. When you have the right amount of Lego-paste, you should be able to smudge it on the cracked fairing with a tablespoon. Leave it to dry and sand it down to the desired finish. That's it; crack fixed all you need now is to paint it. If you didn't use Lego® blocks the same colour as your fairing that is. I wonder what repair solutions I've missed by discarding my childhood ActionMan® collection."

Cant hurt, right?

I've used the palkstic repair kit (29.95) from Eastwood to fix the tabs on tasl plastics and even the cracks in the blender part of a Vita-Mix. I can say this really works great. It will work on the inside of the fairing to hold itr tyogether. You can use it to glue on other plastic bits (even Legos) for added strength.

Very easy. Search ebay for "headlight ears/mounts", basically any headlight, any turn signals, and some mirrors. There isn't much to it.

I remember putting this in another thread a long time ago but the lego trick sounds awesome.

Here man, i posted this awhile back because someone had dropped their bike.

ABS plumbers cement works good to.  I pieced my exes bike back together after she put it into a wall.  You could plastic weld the crack then use ABS plumbers cement as a bondo alternative and just sand and shoot.

beer and a few loose women well help that cracked ego bro... lol

And if the bike is to high for you i would lower it so you dont drop it again, or wear high heals! (i would lower it personally, but hey i wont judge you if you go with that second option bhahah  :icon_lol:)

good luck

VegasRider

I flat foot it without much trouble, but I wasn't sitting on the bike when this happened. If the dork behind me hadn't almost killed me I would not have dropped it. I had one of those bad days where it all goes wrong. Luckily I have found the fairing and stickers to match. Thank God for ebay. Thanks for all the tips guys. If the crack had been smaller I would have tried the legos for sure.
