CB750 gauges on a GS? Possible?

Ran across these gauges. Pretty nice looking and still the old school like we are used to.

Anyone familiar with them? Would they work? (mechanical issues? - I can handle the indicators & wiring)

Obviously the mounts could be very different. The speedo ratio should be the same, but the tach ratio could be the same or WAY off.

Have you checked out some gauges from the mid to late 80's GS's? Those would probably fit/work better.

I'm looking. Haven't explored the older GS's yet. Since I will probably put the 2006 motor into Trey, I'll have to change the wiring harness to the newer one and might as well upgrade/change the instruments. I still like the older look of dials for an older bike. Looking for something with nicer looking indicators and a better looking mounting frame.

I saw Kawasaki Ninja 600 90 Speedometer Gauges for $15. At that price, I could use the housing and change the innerds. (Powersportnation has a sale where every week the price goes down until it his 75% off. I picked up some pretty sweet deals for spare parts - stator $20, shock $5, wiring harness $2.)

There was a Yamaha 550 Seca Speedometer Gauges 1981 that looks nice. Not cheap enough to risk it. Maybe I can find a gauge set with a cool housing and swap the GS500 instruments into it.

Trey is my 3rd and will be my project bike. Might just disassemble him this winter and change a lot as I reassemble him.

Adidas, did you every see the speedo on my GR? I bought a fiberglass headlight bucket from www.roccitycafe.com , cut a hole in the top, and used the original speedo inside a GS450 housing. Have it all frenched in to look like the old "snorkel" speedos from the 60's. I can find a pic if you'd like.

The stock tacho goes to 12,500.  And the motor will do it too.  Don't know if the 11K redline on that tach would be an issue for you.

For them to be accurate the internal ratios need to be the same between the Honda and GS clocks. Try driving both sets with the cables connected to a cordless drill running at 2 or 3 various speeds and then compare the readings. If both sets read somthing similar relative to the drill speeds you can say they are compatable

Start the drill up slowly in case the needles slam up against the stops and make sure the Honda set will operate in the same direction as the GS cables rotate.

Fwiw, the Honda gauges need the drill to spin counter-clockwise. The older GS gauges spin the same way, I couldn't imagine the GS500 being different.

I saw these. I like the kind-of old school look. I think that is appropriate for a GS500.
Suzuki 550 - looks kind nice but a little thick. Photos of back show I can pull gauges and put GS500 gauges in

This Yamaha 550 set looks cool. Gauges come out so I should be able to drill 2 holes and put our GS500 ones in.
