Alright so i got my bike finally running... yayayay  :icon_mrgreen: .... buuttt it was as smooth as i hoped it would be lol

so these are my problems:

My idle is very high, it starts at 1800 rms when its cold but then when the bike worms up it jumps to 3000 and sometimes even 6000 rms and stays there.
I tried to mess with my throttle cables and actually got the bike to run at 15-1800 rms even when it was all wormed up and just when i thought i was in the clear....
bam it went back up to 27-3000 rms.. after bitching and moaning for a hours i gave up and decided to go write this.

Now this is what i did notice... My float level is a little high, just slightly over the bottom of the float bowl cover. (also the bike puked some gas from the right carb into the air box, but the left side didnt. even though they are the same exact height any suggestions?)

I also notice exhaust smoke coming from the right side card but not the left, as well as smoke coming out from the hose that connects from the manifold to the top of the air box! Would that mean that i have a exhaust leak somewhere??? If so where should i check and how much would it cost me if you guys know???
And would that explain the wired ass idle issue that im having???

someone plz help.. i just want to ride man! I bought this bike two months ago and maybe put two miles on it lol...

In other news i got tons off goodies for it, like a new seat ( by the way it is easy as hell to reap holster  the seat!) new led runing lights and halo light, got carbon fiber vinyl coming it as well as new handle grips. Also im putting a new chain and changing the oil tomorrow! Fun fun fun  :woohoo:

Thanks for all your help as always!

Sounds like a misadjusted idle with MAYBE some throttle sticking.

Warm up bike completely and adjust idle to 1200 RPMs.  If it doesnt fix it, see if the throttle snaps shut. If it doesnt lube or replace the cables.

do you have a pair valve on your bike  this is the only component that could send exhaust gasses into the airbox other than a tight inlet valve  .When we discuss the gs500 on here it would be a big help if we know what year it is .If you do have a pair valve remove it and blank the holes under the exhaust then remove the plastic tee in the vacume line that supplies the pair valve and replace it with a copper tube about an inch long, dont forget to plug hole in bottem of airbox , this eliminates one possible problem. ive done it and have had no problems..

You said you adjusted the throttle cables, but what about the idle screw on the bottom side of the carbs? And the smoke coming out of the carb has nothing to do with exhaust gases. Sounds to me like maybe an air leak around the right carb causing it to idle high......... When your valves checked last? And were your carbs synced?

The smoke between the cylinder head and air box is coming from your breather tube. It should be a gassy / oily/ steam. Just get a new breather hose since you should never really see that steam anyway.

Sorry guys it was late last night i meant to put that i have a 05 GS500F!

and what is a pair valve.. and where would i find that? pic if possible.

The smoke is really white and it does look gassy and oily! Now i have not checked my valves, my bike has  not been operational for about 2 weeks or so since i last started it up. I was planing on having it done at a shop, but would the valve adjustment take care of my high idle????

Also how would you sync your carbs on a 05.. i was reading about that on another forum, but my carbs are totally different from the latter models!
I also adjusted the idle screw, it is barely engaged and my bike runs fine at 1500- 1800 rpms until it worms up and acts a donkey lol...

What about that air leak... do you mean around the diaphragm or just one of the hoses that is connected to the carb?
(brand new diaphragm and i went over all the hoses to make sure there were no holes and etc. I did not find anything wrong)

By the way i did notice that on my left carb, the black piece that blocks the intake whole that has the needle that goes up to the diaphragm (sorry not sure what its called)

Thanks for all the replies as always!!!  let me know if there is anymore info that you guys need!
skips up and down just slightly  but the one on the right sits still.. is this a problem?
