I guess the saying goes to each his own right?

So you chopped down the tail to the end of the seat? IMO, it looks like you did a good job MECHANICALLY but you completely failed in the looks category. I applaud your mechanical prowess, but you've completely destroyed a great bike. The exhaust doesn't even look right anymore. Everything past the crankcase looks out of place.

Poor bike.

Personally, I'm not a fan of dual headlights (but that's why they aren't on MY bikes). I can certainly appreciate the work that has gone into this bike. Have you looked into a rear hugger fender of some sorts? Or else everything under your seat will get trashed.

Let's remember folks: this is something that was done over a weekend. It's not listed for sale with a 200% return and he didn't say it was completed. Fact of the matter is, he took a cycle that was made in the thousands and applied some sweat and creativity. It's obvious that a GS500 isn't a "rare" bike.

I thinks it's ok

Put on a rear tire hugger.
Shorten the exhaust, like the new gixxers, or even shorter.
Incorporate some of your old plastic around the rear of your seat, cause it looks unfinished.
Try to hide some of the spaghetti wiring under the seat area.
I love the dual head lights.

P.S.
Take some better pictures

It isn't the fact he destroyed it that made me make negative remarks. It's that he got TOO creative and chopped off way too much. The rear looks entirely out of place.

This is a more tasteful chop that compliments the motorcycle. Once you bring the rear in front of the rear tire it begins looking ridiculous.

Oh man, here we go again........

First off, who says the bike is destroyed? Without seeing the title for the frame, its a pretty safe bet that the bike hasn't been totaled because the tail section was cut off. Let's see.....frame? Check. Drive train? Check. Handlebars, gas tank, forks? Check, check, and check. Looks like a fully functional scoot to me! Let me guess though- you think it's "destroyed" because YOU wouldn't ride it? Good news! It's not your bike to ride.

Next, you said he got too creative and cut off too much. Is there some sort of rule book that I don't know about? How much is "too much"? There is enough of a seat there to plant his butt on it, so I wouldn't say too much was taken off. Oops! I get it now. "Too much" for your tastes. And this leads back to it not being your bike.

Everybody has an opinion. Just because we don't share the same ones is a good thing. It makes people creative and diverse. And for the record: I find it funny that in you just said he destroyed a GS500, but then post  link to a Ducati getting cut up and call that tasteful.

And here we go again, another person tearing apart my post one syllable at a time to prove a point. I really could care less how he decides to work on his bike. I figured since everyone was throwing their two cents in I would too. It's far too extreme to me.

He destroyed it because now it's a safety risk. I personally don't care if he roasts his nuts on the back wheel hitting a bump too hard. Let the records show there's a reason GOOD chops keep part of the rear over the wheel.

Big Rich

How often does the whole "somebody tearing my post apart" thing happen to you? You mentioned it so it must be some kind of a problem for you. Did you ever wonder why?

And if he hits a bump so hard that his body comes off the seat and he isn't in control with his hands and feet, there are bigger problems to worry about. For a work-in-process, I would say it's fine.

And on that note, I'm stepping down sir. Carry on.

WOW, WTF everyone seems to be too sensitive lately. I have read it in many threads this week, is it the weather?

Please remember, this is a great forum with alot of experience and knowledge.

Boss is a new member and he was kind enough to share with us a project he did over the weekend.

Let's not flame him so badly that he doesn't come back!

To each is their own.

It looks like a streetfighter to me. I think what would make it look a little nicer would be some wire management and cleaning things up so it's not shown everywhere.

If you you go over to customfighters.com you can get some ideas on how to make that seat and maybe a mini tail for it so the lines flow better.

Otherwise who cares...it's your ride.

bosshogg85

Appreciate it fellas! Yea im still trying to figure out the tail design and i will put a rear tire hugger on, its just the beginning of my build and Ive got a lot of ideas so im just taking my time.
