Where to buy clutch cable

I want to pick up a spare clutch cable for my 2008F, as I'm planning some long trips and want to have a replacement with me in case my clutch cable breaks on the road. I looked for one on Bike Bandit and they don't seem to have it. I looked on eBay and there are some for sale, but they all say they're for the 1989-2000 model years. Would I have any trouble buying this and installing it on a 2008? Or do later years use a different cable? If the eBay one wouldn't work on my 2008, where can I find one that would? Any aftermarket options? I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer to this question, so thanks for any tips.

One other question--what works well as a clutch cable lube? Something that would be easy to take along on the road?

Throttle cables changed. I do not recall any changes to clutch cables from 1989-2011. All mine are the same except the new ones are shiny  :D
Lube the cable before you go. Otherwise, a small can chain lube would do in an emergency, and be good for the chain. Otherwise, cable lube.

Bike bandit has the clutch cable - 23: CABLE ASSY,CLUT     1101686    $15.31
(Not obvious: NOT listed on engine or transmission... it is listed on the handle bar schematic  :cookoo: )

The various parts whores here all have used ones.

helps me out as well.
thank you  :thumb:

as I wasnt sure, nor looked up yet what years are compatible.
my cable at the handlebar end is halfway ripped apart. (the inside metal)

So I will be getting a new one when I start buying parts.

I replaced my clutch, throttle, and choke cables on my 97 GS back in 02 before trips to Aderondak and Smoky Mtns and carried the oem ones as spares on those and subsequent trips to the mountains, 97 GS had about 50k miles on it then.  I've made it home locally with broken clutch and throttle cables over the years but it's a real pain in the neck when you're on the road.

Got 2 of the cables from Motion Pro and one from Suzuki which was cheaper, think it was the clutch but it was a long time ago now.  Control cables are not that expensive and I want to be sure of getting a quality one and not some cheapo no name replacement.  With online suppliers charging $6-8 shipping it's frequently cheaper to just get one from a local dealer.  Motion Pro has had a good rep for control cables for many years.  Clutch cable is only a $15 item from Suzuki, they do list different part numbers for different years probably due to different routings of the cables on E and F models, I think the ends are all the same.

The perch and engine are the same. Only difference might be an inch or so in length.

Of course, in the handlebar schematic, the one place I didn't look  :icon_mrgreen: Thanks for the tip, just ordered a clutch cable along with some chain lube.

The parts whores here are always glad to help. We generally know where to get anything or get it from one of us.
Given how cheap a new cable is, you did the right thing by getting a new one. Use your old one as your spare.

ohgood

+1 motion pro.

also, you can route the new cables (like adv dudes) right next to your current cables... if/when it breaks just push the new one into service, no routing needed. :)

if you're doing one, do them all. it makes the bike so much nicer to ride.  O0
