everything on hold until I fix my stupid mistake by cranking the engine with a stuck valve bucket. (thought it was an electrical problem)
broke an exhaust valve and dinged up the piston and around the bottom of the valve...

new bucket in my desk and waiting for the exhaust valve to arrive soon.

I better get lucky in fixing this, however it gets fixed.

because im Seriously getting fed up tossing money uselessly at problems I caused or just crap luck.

Bummer........but look at it as a learning experience. You will never do that again.

83 GR650 (riding / rolling project)

It's opener there in the wide open air...

nope I SURELY will Not! hahaha :nono:

I just hope its not an expensive fix.
or else "right now anyway" im not sure I have the stomach to throw alot of money at it all at once to fix it.
Since by now I could have already bought an SV650 almost brand new with cash! haha

Its been fun but honestly, enough is enough already are my thoughts towards it!

Riding season is 2.5 months away and I want to work all the bugs out of this thing already!
Not make more! hahaha
Probably going to be days before April nice enough to ride but April is pleasant enough to say the seasons started.
which is when the local safety course starts (when I took mine last year)

Im just really hoping I win the cylinder assembly and pistons from the same 1990 motor I placed a bid on.
Then I would only have to hope to find a good cylinder head to go with it
if the seller didnt sell the one that went with the pieces im bidding on (waiting for a reply from them)

Just alot going on in life too and I seriously dont need anymore headaches like this crap hahaha

Think its time to save up for an SV650 in GREAT condition.
Instead of another endless work in progress bike that has been that since I first got it hahaha (not that it hasnt been fun)

Tomb, I can't even give my engine parts away.  I've offered and nobody ever takes me up on it.  I have a whole engine in a basket case.  Need cylinder head?  Got it.  Need Piston assembly?  Got it.  Just pay shipping, you can have it.  The engine had a rod bearing go south and it locked up.  Previous owner took it all apart and put it in a tupperware container and gave up.  The head looks good.  Piston and rod assembly look good.  Let me know if you need something sir.  95 or 96 is the year.  :star: :star: :star:

awesome man!

kk

the entire upper engine is what I could use.

Pistons, Cylinder assembly and cylinder heads.

18517 it would ship to.

lemme know and free is always good.

would toss u a tip for it after I pay my bills but im 100% interested!

I get paid tomorrow too

(edit)
now I hope the problem gets fixed without throwing a ton at it, hopefully with what I have coming and if I win the auctions I bid on.

Honestly, just straight up fed Up!

Im actually starting to look at some SV650's
If it cant get fixed and be Good and reliable without spending $200+, then I think im going to look at getting something else.
But still keep the GS

I dunno, i've just been Very frustrated with it and plain sick and tired.

Awesome!

and I see Black and I see Valves!!  :woohoo:

wish I would have inspected the bottom of my head before I ordered that new exhaust valve....
at least now I have an extra one laying around if I ever need it to use, trade, or give to someone who has been as kind to me as you have and many others if and when they ever need help.

and (almost forgot) a new valve bucket that isnt to be used for what I bought it for if the head has those as well.

(edit)
ya'know, since they are in a nice small bin to the side and not in the way.
I say hold onto the parts left over.
you never know when someone like me is going to be in dire need of a piece and be Very grateful for it and hopefully get the chance to return the favor.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this yet or not but that gallon container of Coleman Fuel you bought is known as "White Gas" or purified gasoline. ;)

Diesel fuel is an amazing degreaser and far less caustic.

Now, onwards, brave soul!

Tombstones81

Nope nobody has told me that about the fuel.

and its been a good week so far  :thumb:

Got parts coming from cbr that will be here Weds when i have the night off from work.

and the engine cylinders / jugs and pistons I bid on prior to cbr's offer was won today  :thumb:

Now to hope the parts I got comin all work out and shes up and running again smoothly!
Because im finally back in the mood to work on it after alot of despair after messing that piston, head, and exhaust valve up.

which Still ticks me off because that engine was smooth as silk!
sounded great and I cant recall having to add more then a quart of oil all season long after the initial oil changes.
so it wasnt burning much oil At All!

I just hope it stays that way!

kk hopefully my next update will be her getting started.

side note tho.

since I'll have the top of the engine off.
I think I "Might" paint the ends of the fins red as I planned.
depends on my patience hahaha

I didnt before because I had already painted a ton and just wanted to finish up.

Tombstones81

Yeah, it will be longer then expected before I have her running.

Keep forgetting that I need to drop the oil pan....... JUST put fresh oil in it too before all of this! ><

Dropped one of the stupid copper washers from above the head, down the middle of the engine and into the bottom.

So I will need to buy a new gasket.
Guess its okay as I was contemplating taking it off to make sure there was nothing in there to damage the motor.
So now I have a "no other choice" reason to.

and hopefully getting a stock headlight fairing and belly pan next pay. (not for certain yet)
OOF!! more painting! hahaha

woulda been out there right now messin with it but im gettin sick

and nah, not going to paint the fins.
the parts from cbr came today.
paint on the engine parts is Veryyyyy nice compared to mine prior to painting.
Heck, might even look better then my paint job.
so im not going to mess with it.

and hope I do get the headlight fairing and belly pan.
if nobody else snags it up before I get paid.

its all good tho.
I've had http://www.skidmarx.co.uk/product.php?id_product=30077 picked out for awhile now.
I would just be missing out on the belly pan.
which im sure I can find one around somewhere

(edit)
sry, sick and not all here right now haha
forgot to say, that headlight fairing you have isnt really my taste.
Personally, i find it rather ugly (Personally!)

the one I linked is from a link from adidas.
and im pretty sure he said he got the same one or very similar that was on one of his bikes when he bought it.
and I like that type better since I already seen it on his bike

After a very restful nights sleep, felt better today. (still feeling it tho)

Got bored, top half of an engine sitting next to me......
Nope I cannot resist!! hahaha  :cookoo:

Took the parts downstairs.

Dropped the oil pan first. (gaskets gone to hell)
Got the copper washer that fell in.

Replaced the busted piston.
Tossed the Cylinder on and checked it all out.
everything was ok.
tossed the Cylinder head on.
Lined up the timing chain....... andddd
SHE CRANKS!!!!! <3  :woohoo:  (by hand of course)

Tossed the cover on and called it a day!

Will be startin that baby up now as soon as I get a new oil pan gasket   :thumb:

If cbr lived close by, I would be bringing over pizza and beer!!  :thumb:

Def. saved my butt if everything stays smoothly!

(edit)
and new oil pan gasket just purchased  :thumb:

and btw, that clear taillight I got is freakin AWESOME!
It looks Great but its also Alot brighter and more noticeable compared to stock.

was just checkin over my ebay and recalled that I didnt make any comments or take any pics of it yet.

and not going to paint the ends of the engine fins red.
actually wanted to this time but the paint on the new engine pieces is just too good to mess up.

tnx :)
still sick, but feeling good enough to move around after actually resting on my past 2 nights off.

and I'll get more pics when she starts up, cut the exhaust pipe to get the slip-on attached, and put the plastics back on.

lot better lookin now with the red chain on, sprocket side engine cover on, and new brake light.
also a nicer painted top end thanks to you  :thumb:
oh yeah, also the new blinkers, but I need to get those blinking properly.

not sure if I want to put the 2 on the back tho.
they are ALOT smaller then I thought they were.
bout the length of a cigg pack.
so im not 100% sure I want something that small to let the ppl behind me know im turning.
Might leave stock on the rear, just to be safe.

I'll have more pics next Friday.

By then I should have the oil pan back on, get her started.
Exhaust on.
and pretty much visually complete as far as not having to dig into the bike much anymore.
Still need those red pegs too lol

errr actually, wont be put back together until late Friday.
if she starts and runs okay, i'll go buy some feeler gauges and do a valve check since im not familiar with this head.
and see if the salvage yard has some new size 40 pilot jets.

If all that works out good, THEN i wont have to dig into it much anymore except minor crap.

and now that you got my motorcycle on my brain!  :cookoo:
What I plan to get with my next pay or income tax when I get my other info im waiting on to file.
if the headlight fairing and belly pan doesnt pan out Friday.
gonna order http://www.skidmarx.co.uk/product.php?id_product=30077
if I do get to buy them, get more paint when they arrive.
some LED bulbs for the gauges and such, + whats needed to make them work properly.
and shop around for a blue LED kit for illuminating the bike.
order a new rear tire.
new pegs finally!
grips
K&N open air filter.
seat fabric
new fuel hoses and clamps
some wax for everything I painted
and some Mothers, back to black trim polish.

hmm I think that will pretty much complete my work for the winter.
IF everything goes smoothly..... (stupid engine!)  :bs:

and some sweet pre ordered flowers to be delivered on Valentines day for a special someone that is currently out of state. (just a self reminder here) haha

hmm think thats it, guess I was in  the mood to type lol  :cookoo:

(edit)
and thanks again to Adidas !
even more hell bent on getting a headlight fairing and belly pan now.
So, I was searching through the site and found a link from adidas on where he got some belly pans from.

found http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo.aspx?catref=516552&tier1url=Bodywork&tier2url=Bellypans&tier3url=Skidmarx

also found some cheaper Raptor headlight fairings for ALOT cheaper then other sites I bookmarked. (incase I ever want one)
http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo.aspx?catref=517576&tier1url=Bodywork&tier2url=Fairings&tier3url=On-Two-Wheels
http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/553588/Bodywork/Fairings/On-Two-Wheels

so if that sale doesnt pan out, def going to be purchasing brand new.

Those fairing you listed are only 30cm from top to bottom, that's close to one foot. That is very small for a headlight fairing. The one on my black GS is around 18 to 20 inches tall.I'm only pointing this out because of how small they are compared to other aftermarket fairings.I do like the looks of both of them.

I know the size of them in person.
Its what is on my bike in the very first photos in this thread when I first brought it home.
Previous Owner had one on it but it was semi broken due to a drop.

they are cheap enough and nice enough to def buy one to toss one now and then for a diff look.  :thumb:

(edit)
i'll just copy the pic over to here

funny, its actually what initially caught my attention and made me want to buy the bike when I seen the ad.
I've seen a GS500 when I was looking at an SV650 as my first bike (was next to it) and I initially thought, noty!
I actually wasnt crazy about a GS500 at all at first.
when I seen that headlight i thought ok that looks cool and different, so I went to check it out.

so glad I did go and get it, even if I had the opposite opinion of a GS500 then as I do now. (the look)
