Right side is too right, Left is too lean.

Mixture screws?

nah, I need bigger main jets.
as well as fix the tight exhaust valve.

already made another thread in the general section on the popping and plug color.
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=59949.0

kk just got back from a shopping spree  :thumb:

Salvage yard only had 145 mains, so I got them.
New fuel lines + some extra.
New header gaskets ordered.
New header bolts (will leave off until I put the new gaskets in)
#3 and #4 washers for the carb needles (bought both to be certain)
allen head bolts for the carbs vs the philips head ones. (they only had 7 tho, not 8   )
All the proper paint to redo the headlight cowl the Exact same way I did the rest of the red.
New plugs.

and I got home to Steezins 260 shim in the mailbox! Hell Yeah!   :thumb: thanks man!!

time to go out and get this girl goin 100%!!!

Ok all done with putting the new valve shim in.
Rejetting the carbs and putting 1 washer under the needle.
thank god I was smart and bought some #3s instead of just #4s.
#4s were a little too big.
and new plugs in.

started up Great and sounded even better then before.

quick run around the block.
no more lack in power at certain points in the throttle.
sounds and rides alot better
and no more poppin when I let off the throttle.

went from 130 main jets to 145.
because of the K&N open air filter.
was at 127.5 last year with a slip-on.
so I thought 130 would be good.
Soooo wrong!!

kk time to clean up and go for short ride.
then to the gfs for dinner.

will post a running video probably tomorrow.
too busy right now as I wanna get a test ride in.

then a detailed overview video of all my work as soon as the clear coat arrives in the mail and I repaint and install the headlight cowl.

 CHEERS!

(edit)
oh yeah...
was going to wait and just take a pic of the bike with it on.

Big Rich

Sorry Tomb, just commented in your other thread too.......

Pops on decel are kinda common on CV carbs and usually not a big deal. You can try different pilot jets (slow jets, idle jets, whatever) and your mixture screws, but those little pops might always be there. It's more about your engine speed is high, but the butterfly valve on the carbs is shut, therefore starving the engine.

The bike looks great though!

hell yeah cbr!

and nice Oz!!
my bro lives on Hebron Drive in Pitt btw.
not too far from where you are at.

Yeah do what you want to the exhaust.
but theres just something about a nice shiny exhaust on these bikes that Really stand out and look good in my eyes.

if I had one worth doing it to and the tools, I would in a heartbeat!
but my slip-on is just too beat up I think.

eh, I've done enough work!!! hahaha
headlight cowl is the last "optional" work im doing for awhile. (paint and install)

and yep, cant wait to get out there!
to ride but of course to see my brother and his family again.

(edit)
REALLY soaking in the moment here.....
5 months (but still not "officially" finished yet) and she is able to be ridden and I have no mechanical worries driving me insane now.   :thumb:

one question...... are you happy you stuck with it?? That final moment of glory was worth all the hassle was it not? lol

Tombstones81

Honestly....
It was TOO much of a pain in the rear and work.

So yeah I was happy as heck when I finally got to riding again.

but im also Very weary of it for now.
Constantly listening for things and checking for Anything that isnt right.

Happy I stuck it out (working on it)

and  I can go either way as far as when I wanted to sell it.
I mean, come on!
$2000 could go a Long way at making me forget everything about the bike with a shiny new toy! haha

Im not finished yet tho.
So its not all there yet.

I still have to sand down more scratches in the frame and repaint those areas from more engine work.

then repaint and install the headlight cowl.

scrub the entire thing down to the point you can Eat off it!

and finish it off with a sweet wax job!

THEN i'll be smiling even more ear to ear! hahaha

for now, its quite dirty as im yet to wash it even once since I had it fully apart.

i know what you mean by being weary. when i replaced the crank in mine i was just waiting for something bad to happen. it will pass  :D now WOT stints to 90 are common for me lol. i love the way it howls at 9-10k rpm lol.

Thanks!  :thumb:

and I'll relax more when I get back from my ride to, around, and from Pittsburgh.

Good news tho  :thumb:

Bike will be all finished sometime next week.

Only waiting on my clear coat to get here for the headlight cowl, which I just got the delivery est and tracking number. (should arrive by the end of the week)

In the meantime, I'll sand down the current paint on it, primer and recolor it probably tomorrow so its ready to be cleared as soon as it arrives.

But also sand down the scratched up (mostly hidden) areas of the frame and repaint it from all the recent engine work again.

Wash the crap out of the bike and wax it, then install the headlight cowl.

Install the new header gaskets and bolts when the gaskets arrive at the dealer.

but before then.
Repaint the exhaust either just near the slip-on since I got a high temp clear now to make it look nice.
or the whole thing to make it look even better if it wont clean up nicely.

and probably finish it off with my personalized TOMBS license plate.
that ran me $35 instead of $20 some because I had the tag and title place do the leg work so it arrives quicker.

then all I have to worry about is riding it, parking it, and general maintenance.

I still plan to redo the seat tho.
but first im going to see if http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-GS-500-E-1989-2000-GRIPPY-PASSENGER-SEAT-COVER-/230435310602?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item35a703cc0a
can do some custom work and make me one to fit the entire seat instead of just the passenger area.

kk was supposed to be mostly cloudy and showers but its partly sunny and dry.
im off the next 2 nights.
so its time to ride!  :thumb:

Headlight cowl finished being painted.
Now to let it cure until Sat or Sun and clearcoat it when I go pick up the can that got sent to my old address tomorrow.

and I waited until it was dry to the touch before applying the next coat of primer and color.
average, 5 to 10 mins.
closer to 5 at the start as I was applying LIGHT coats.
closer to 10 after that as I started to go with thicker coats. (but not enough to get ANY runs)

Probably, half a can of primer.
and just about a whole can of color.
dont wanna go down to the bottom of the can as it will start to Spurt out and make nasty spotting.

few light coats of primer

finished with primer

First light coat of paint

2nd light coat.

back side

another coat

and finished with color.

and another update.

"Possibly" getting a 100% working 01 engine next weekend "IF" it doesnt sell.

Why?

I was going to rebuild the whole top end of my original 94 engine.
Would need an entire matching top end from the cylinders up.
Then I was going to get all new pistons & rings, bolts, washers, gaskets, and valve guides or whatever they are called.

By the time I did all that (wouldnt be all at once) it would cost me from $400 to $600.

So I figure, why not just buy a motor I Seen and Heard (video) that is 100%, along with being newer and fewer miles.

Not getting ahead of myself.
only happening if it doesnt sell by the time I get paid next Friday.

Im merely putting current ideas and a possible plan down on my thread.
