Indicator Problem...

Its typical... Just before i need to take it for an MOT something stupid fails...

Was checking over the bike and it come down to checking both left and right indicators work... Obviously front and rear...

Both front and rear worked correctly on the left hand side, flashing correctly and at a stable speed...

The right hand side however did not... Nothing at all... Not even the indicator light on the instrument cluster... But the Power/On/Red light was getting brighter in the same pattern as if it should be the indicator light...

e.g.. When left indicators are on, Red Power light is illuminated, Yellow/Orange indicator light is flashing correctly with the bulbs..

When the right indicators are meants to be on the Red Power light goes in the sequence of Normal/Brighter/Normal/Brighter and so on... As if it was an indicator itself!?

...

Now after it just sitting there for a couple of days due to not using it, i check the indicators again and the left hand side is now just constantly on including the light on the instrument cluster with no flashing and the right just makes the power light constantly bright!?

Any ideas on what the problem could be or where to start?!

Thanks.

Are they the stock indicator bulbs?

Sounds like either bad wiring, a blown bulb somewhere, or you signal relay is toast. Check each bulb is working, then check continuity at the wires/switch.

Thanks for the reply..

they are not stock indicators front and rear... The right side now works the same as the left hand side...

Problem is they are on constantly... No flashing...

New flasher relay needed?

Big Rich

I would say so. If you have normal bulbs in the indicators, get a normal relay. If they are LED, get one made for no/low draw (sometimes called electronic relays).

The steady on dashboard indicator for your turn signals is what the GS does when one of the lights has blown. When I accidently wired my turn signal up backwards, the dash light wouldnt light up at all. I would give a good check to your wiring, make sure nothing is exposed, and the polarity is correct.

i recall a buddy of mine had to wire in diodes to get the low power led turn signals to work correctly on his honda motorcycle. not sure what type of bulb you're using tho.

as a quick check you could hook up the stock bulbs again (if you have them) to test the electrical system and relay.
