Exhaust Questions - '05 GS500 vs. '89 GS500

Does the exhaust off of an '89 GS fit a 2005 GS. I do not care about frame or body contact. This '05 GS motor is in a Mini Dune Buggy project that I am working on. I only really care if the flanges and the spacing is correct...will it bolt up to the motor? I have to modify the pipes anyway no matter if it is the right year exhaust or not.

Dimensionally they are the same but in 2004 the pipe got a cat shoved up it, it may be of consequence to you.....it may not

Have just been informed by a LEO, our roadside LEOs now carry some kind of emissions testing thing. So as well as getting you for fender chops they can test if you've removed the cat. If you have, $600 fine and four points - harsh when we only get 12. Bike will have the rego and plate removed making it instantly illegal to ride. So you then need to get it home yourself somehow, get the cat put back in, get it roadworthy, then take it to the Transport Department for testing, then you can get it registered again.

This Had been in the works a while back but it was canned by the state govt - but - since they estimated it can make $20mil in fines from this, they slipped it through without anyone knowing. I'm in Australia in Qld.

Fenders are required in the US though I don't often hear of it being enforced.

In Washington State:

For passenger cars, motorcycles, mopeds, trailers, and semi-trailers, all such devices shall be as wide as the tires behind which they are mounted, and extend down to at least the center of the axle.

In Minnesota you don't really have anything to worry about as long as your not being stupid, and you have headlights and taillights on.

Phenix is licensed. Didn't have to pass any inspection or emissions test.   That's the State of Washington.
Now where do I mount the license plate?
