So I was on a strait back road today, no one around, decided to max my bike out.. Well See After I hit my 116mph when I was slowing down, She died on me.. Pulled over at a stop sign after rolling there.. Clutched it. Tried to start it. It was acting like there was no gas in the fuel lines/carbs. After about 15 secs. the fuel re-entered and the bike started/ran fine. but what causes this? Was this just a noob operator error? Or is there something wrong. Also I cleaned my carbs. and Put them back together.. I got 2 leaky spots. from them now and Can't tell where they are coming from. Also I can't get my bike to idle right. I when I warm her up and than knock the choke up/off. she drops to 1,200RPM like she's suppose to be. after that, Riding for about 10 mins. She revs clutch/Neutral around 3,000RPM only way to bring it down, is to adjust the idle screw thing at the bottom. and than if you do that, if you don't keep blipping it. the bike will die down, cause the idle got to low.. I would really just like to ride.. :( tired of all these problems!

There's a drag strip back there?

That's all you did - experience high speed fuel cut off. Still have the original petcocks? The bike uses a LOT of gas going at max speed and you were probably starving the carbs for a while getting to that. Starving carbs can = damaged motor as well.

Set your idle screw to around 1200 rpm after a good 20 minute ride and the bike is fully warmed up.

*20* minutes?  my 2006 is warmed up after about 5.
But I live in california, dunno how much diference that makes.

I was thinking just to be on the safe side. After 20 minutes, the motor can't really get any warmer.

Well.. I haven't really touched the bike myself. The previous owner did tho. Only thing Ive done, Take apart the carbs/clean/put back together. Oh and replaced clutch/brake lever.

OK... what did the prior owner do? Modified the ignition? Air filter? Jetting (drilled out covers for the idle mix)? Exhaust?

Reason I ask is that my bike had same issue; it would idle fine at initial warmup (5 minutes) but start floating as it got even hotter (20-30 minutes). It did this in two setups on my bike (oh, and all this after I'd cleaned the carbs, set valves, check vac leaks and all the other stuff for floating idle in the FAQ...)

First, when I didn't have my idle mix screws out far enough (went from 2 turns to 3 out, or something like that... I backed them out 1/2 turn at a time, each, until the problem went away)

Second, when I advanced the ignition up 5 degrees and ran premium, it started up with this floating idle again. I reversed the modification and it was fine.

So... what did that prior owner do to your new-to-you bike?

There could be an aftermarket fuel filter put in the fuel line that could be getting clogged.  There isnt normaly one there.  Check that out.
