Got a wild hair yesterday morning and decided to ride from Ft. Worth, TX to Shreeveport, LA (after working a 12 hour night shift  :cookoo: ) for lunch and ride home.  What I did not know is that in BFE I20 traffic is 90-100 MPH.  With me on it (230 lbs) the GS500E in 6th seems to be good for about 85mph sitting upright and about 90 or 95 with me tucked and 100 with someone in front of me cutting the air).  Does that sound about right?  I spent most of the time with the throttle just wide open in 6th.  The bike took it and just begged for more!  It has 10,150 miles on it and I doubt anyone has ever ran the valves on it so I need to get on that.

When I started my ride I had about 250 miles of experience.  When it was over I had about 750 mile of experience.   O0  I am sore but it was great fun.

That is fun and when you slow down to 60 mph it feels like you are barely moving. Back in the early 70s I used to ride from Miami to Fresno and back every summer, I remember one time I took a more northern route and traversed almost all of Kansas at over 100----for hours at a stretch on terrible roads. I was on a 72 Honda CB-750 ( bought new for $1,400 ), it had 135,000 miles on it when I sold it years later for $400, as I recall I only adjusted the valves twice in that time, and even when I did they were never far enough out of spec to do any harm.

Yeah I agree check you oil. I remember my first big ride at the end my arse was numb and sore lol.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Been keeping track of oil burn.   :thumb:  Thanks for the tips though.  I am about to lube the chain, top off the oil and gas.

Believe it or not I am not really all that sore.  My throttle fingers were sore this morning and 1/4 of the way in my ass was killing me but the pain went away after that.  I figured that that meant today would be brutal but not the case.  No back aches either and I was worried about that.  Even through combat boots it turns out soda cans and rocks suck.  Going to buy some MC boots.  And some decent luggage.  I just had my backpack strapped on to the seat.  It was secure just not user friendly.

Definitely not a day that I will soon forget.  Quite a learning experience.

Sounds like it was a blast.  Impulse rides are some of the best.

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

ok  im heading to Cali next month and I"m going to rent a bike to ride.  My friend told me the highways only allow you to split lanes and that the minimum speed is 100.  I can ride it, but I told her she may have been mistaken.  She swears she isnt though.  Any truth to that?

Also what is BFE?

Depends on whether you're talking about CALI-fornia or CALI Columbia, in California only the lane splitting goes---don't have a clue about that other place.

bfe - bumfuckegypt, aka, middle of nowhere, or very far from home.

100 mph in california is hardly the case. there are plenty of occasions that traffic moves 100 mph, but usually (in cali) it's from ONE LANE TO ANOTHER WITHOUT LOOKING so be careful.

lane splitting is -not- for new riders. vary lane position so drivers notice, and don't piss em off at cruising speeds. they will win.

90mph on the gs is just not fun. use the very smooth carburetor attributes in town, on twisty highways, or with a long trip at moderate speeds. 60 is so much more enjoyable.

check at each stop:
tires/pressure
chain
oil level (the right way)
