Looks awesome! Love that can.

Thanks!

Well it looks like there will be enough room in the seat hump for the battery and all the other electrical components so the unneeded brackets were cut off ........

That should give a nice clean look ..... I like bikes you can "see through"  :thumb:

The problem now is we're pretty much going to need a hugger. I've been searching for a Bandit 400 one but if anybody knows of a cheap alternative, please let me know.

Janx101

Lookup user 'airbrush' on this site .... He makes them!  :thumb:

Thanks Janx  We need cheap though, plus it looks like we'd need 5 more to throw down?  :dunno_black:

I'm thinking about this CBR one from Airtech ......

I have a much modded one on the SRX, it's sized for a 130/140 tire and there's a lot of material to work with ...... trim to fit   :thumb:

fleshpiston

So I test fit the CBR hugger, not too bad! Move some tabs around, trim it a bit different, yeah ....... I can make this work.  O0

I think I finally have a decent plan to mount the seat. I cut the stock seat mount off the parts bike, this will be welded on for the front support of the new seat. There's just enough clearance to get the tank off.

I'll cut some 1/8" aluminum plate for the seat to rest on, it'll be covered with a thin layer of dense foam. Shown here in cardboard  :D

The tabs on the sides of the plate ....or, um.... cardboard ...... are for Dzus 1/4 turn fasteners. I'll rivet an aluminum tongue to the front of the seat so it will mount like stock there. No tools required.... pop the two fasteners and the seat will lift off. :thumb:

Way cool

Very very cool :) Although I don't agree with a 500 being a first street bike, It's lookin good!

Well he's been riding for a while ........

But yeah, I hear ya. He's been driving a cage (woohoo! airbags!) for almost a year now. The plan is to drive the car for at least another year to learn the "mean streets" then take the MSF course. If mom will let him he'll start on her bike, a 250 single.......

There is also a local community college here that has a Police training road course they run tack days on. The initial sessions are geared more towards bike control and training rather than going fast so we might sign up for those too.

Hi.I have,nt been on here for about 12 months....maybe longer. Anyway, is your machine a 92 model. I only ask as I have a 92 model with the same colour scheme, with the standard dropped bars and stainless brake lines.
My bike was a very shabby stolen recovered bike which I bought a couple of years ago with the intention of giving it a mild cafe-racer makeover. I will post a few photos tomorrow. I found that the subframe is pretty easy to shorten and de-lugg. I made my own seat pan,and am just waiting for the upholsterer to finish it off in a cafe race style.

fleshpiston

Thanks for all the kind words  :embarassed:

hornet-  It's an 89 frame with a 91 motor.

Well one more piece to the puzzle figured out. I'd been thinking about what we could do for a tail light. I searched and searched for one from another bike but nothing was quite right. Ideally it would be two small round lights set into the tail. I suppose we could make something but that's a lot of dickin around, so to keep the project going I picked up a dirt bike light........

It's LED, weighs next to nothing, has a license plate light, and the vertical sides are just big enough to mount some smallish turn signals to.

It's little angular and modern looking compared to the rest of the bike but it'll do for now. We'll trim the tail to follow the lines of the light so it'll sit more flush and tuck in a little better.

With the plate .....

Also got the forks apart, the lowers are at the powder coaters for some satin black.

Frame and swing arm will be satin black too. We're not sure what color the body/wheels will be yet so I figure black goes with everything. Flat black would be cool but tends to get chalky over time, so hopefully the satin will have enough contrast with the gloss black engine ..... and lets face it, the welds on these frames are NOT pretty, black should help hide them a bit.

Guess that's it for now, ride safe
