To those who have rebuilt '04-up forks

I have yet to see the insides of the newer GS forks and I'm curious if the tool from my SV forks would work.  Opinions??

the diameter of the hole is 16-17 mm

Just replaced my springs and seals on my 05 and the 'bashing the hell out of a broom handle' method worked for me.  As I posted on my thread http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=58762.0 I don't think there are any ridges for either of those tools to connect with.  The insides of the damper rod are completely smooth. There is only a small ring indentation about a centimeter from the top edge. 

Two tools that I thought were absolutely necessary (besides the broom handle) were my impact wrench and a long 7mm hex socket.  There's no way I would have had enough leverage to do it with regular allen wrench.
