Can now Anodize at home!

so I was searching on the internet how to anodize, finally found a good write up! and all you need is very simple stuff.. Couldn't believe it. the most expensive thing you need is sulfuric acid, and a power source, car battery charger with 6 amperes of current. Distilled water, a hot plate < something to heat up water. RIT dye < local michaels craft store. Any color, lighter colors said to work best.

And bam, there you go you can make your anodized parts, thinking about doing my brake/clutch handles for now, because they oxidize quickly outside for some reason < BRAND NEW PARTS TOO! ouch.. anyways. Gonna be doing them either black/red

When I get some sulfuric acid, I'll be doing this little project thus I have everything else. I'll post pictures and possibly start a small trade on here GStwins forums, once I get good and know exactly what works. I'll be anodizing some foil to begin with and than move on to my actual parts.

Would be nice to grant some GSTwiners with some anodized parts! of what ever color/tone they want. Plus, it will be going to a good cause < My bike.

Was curious if I could anodize my engine, but that's for later times and further research ^_^ RED ENGINE? FTW!?

Just a tip, maybe you can use one (or two, using the 5V rails) PC power supply. Its cheaper than the car battery charger and you just have to check if they have enough current.

What about safety / health issues...like breathing hot sulfuric acid fumes???  Plus don't you have to add some weird elements to get each color, like lead , or arsenec or something like that?

Ah, what the heck, what could possible go wrong?

Looks like all you need is a medium sized garage, and $2000 ~ $4000 in equipment, (about the price of a nice GS500) and you're good to go to color that sprocket!

Anodizing small parts is totally doable with stuff around the house. The biggest equipment expense is the power source (this effectively limits the surface area/size of the part you can handle); a battery charger works and you can make it adjustable with something as simple as a rheostat. I wouldn't do a set of engine cases or rims at home, but levers / sidecovers... sure.

Just like MC's, ATGATT. Goggles and whatever personal protection you need.
