Petcock Nipple...came...off??

So while disassembling my 97 GS500 to install the rubber bumper Adidasguy so graciously sent me, one of the petcock nipples came off...or out...or whatever. It was the reserve line.

I was pulling down on the fuel line to remove it from the tank and POP...it just came out. Decided to wing it and hammer it back in there since it appears to be a pressed fit. I didn't actually hit the brass with a hammer but instead I used a plastic handled allen-wrench and tapped it with a hammer.

Anybody ever had this happen? I'm assuming it'll be okay, no signs of leaks or anything...

Should be OK. I think I have a couple tank valves with bad filter screens or need a new O ring. Can send one with the turn signals and you can swap the filter screen and check the O ring.

The same thing just happened to me!
Just poke it back in, and give it a few whacks with something made of hard plastic or rubber. I used a pair of needle nose pliers... it worked. If you are really worried, or it starts to leak, go to the store and get some of that soft setting tacky sealant.

Well, I'm not gonna mess with it unless I have to. I'll see if it starts leaking...if it does, I'll get back to ya Adidas.

yeah had that 2 months ago when i was finishing my tuning , stuck a ball bearing ball  on it and gave it a light tap to swell the end and put loctite on it to seal it and tapped back in .no leaks 2009 gsf

Because if you use Petcock and Nipple in the same post people's brains go haywire.

This happened to me too.  Just pop 'er back in there and it should be ok.  Hit it a few times with a hard rubber mallet and it should reseat in the soft brass.

Done and done. Seems to be functioning fine now. I'll occasionally smell gas but I'm not convinced it's the petcock.

Well, I DO love garlic...and I love bread, but I despise butter, and the thought of eating Mexican makes me ill. I also don't eat cheese (because my stomach can't handle it).

So, possibly...?
