I just bought a 94 GS500E on Saturday.
I very pleased with the bike so far.
It's got 7,000 miles on it and is in good shape plus it seems 100% stock.
I'll post a pic of it tomorrow maybe since the weather is unseasonably warm and I will be riding again!

She's got a hovering idle problem and seems to need re-jetted pretty bad.  I am gonna get the idle mix screws out and re-jet as soon as it gets colder again (plus i will run down the rest of the list from the great carb threads I have already found  )  I will be base-lining the bike directly, and making good use of the search function in the next few weeks, I am sure.  It's also got a very rusty battery box, so I will probably try to pull that and refinish it, too.

Would anybody like to see a picture of my other bike? It is a 1973 FLH that I have built myself.
It is at the opposite end of the motorcycle continuum, but maybe there are some here who can appreciate a wide variety of tastes?

I'd like to see the FLH, I enjoy a good antique hog.

Do an internets search, and try to find the factory service manual, if you havent. Its a big help.
Hovering idle is usually the product of vac leaks or lean mixture, check all the rubber stuff for leaks and give the carbs a good clean.

there's all sorts of tips and tricks on here and people ready to help. I've been here a short while and enjoy it as much as it has been useful and educational.

Before you go too far into tearing the carbs apart and looking for other issues make sure the idle isn't turned up too high. That's an easy way to get a hanging idle. Let the bike warm up, and even if it seems to be at the right speed, just keep turning the idle adjuster down slightly. If it goes too low and you still have a hanging idle then you can look for other issues, but my bike used to idle at the right speed and would hang when I let off the gas, but somehow I could turn the adjuster down a bit to get rid of it and it would still be at the right idle speed, it was weird.

I am from Lancaster County in Pennsylvania.

I turned the idle down, and it's better, but the rpm's still seem to hang after I rev it.
Looks like the air filter is pretty dirty and I didn't even pull the plugs yet so WTF   .

It has a little bit of rash on the RH side, but you need to look for it IMO (the xhaust is just showing a reflection in the pic below). 
I took the rest of the RH decal off tonight with a heat-gun. and also the tank decal using the advice from a thread on here.
Overall, I am pleased with the way it cleaned up, since it had a little bit of rust from sitting out.
The only places that need further attention are the frame bracket that holds up the battery box and the swingarm will eventually need a coat of paint, esp. if I keep riding it in the winter around here. 
Those cast white wheels are a pain in the duck to clean, but I like the way they look.

I am very happy with it and I think I got a winner.

Cool. I have a 93 and it looks almost the same, just with pink highlights

Foaming bathroom cleaner from the dollar store cleans grime off the wheels nice, then rinse and dry.
