Weekend Ride

So, today was the first day that it was actually decent enough to ride for more than about 20 minutes. Needless to say I took the opportunity to stretch the legs on the orange crush.

Pics are from a nice, secluded area about 30 miles from my house - getting there is all back roads with quite a number of tight turns and sweepers.











I ended up logging almost 100 miles today - that was all I could bear with vented gloves and once the sun started to go down, so did the temps.

So you actually went for a ride instead of looking for oil leaks on the bike? 

Nice photos. Definitely invest in some winter gloves. You can carry both the winter and ventilated on rides so when the weather is in between changes  you can swap and still enjoy the ride.

Thank you. I do have a pair of nice Thinsulate gloves, I just didn't bring them. It was somewhat of an impromptu ride, ya know how that is. Spontaneous.

Tuesday and Wednesday are supposed to be 50-52 degrees, so I'm gonna try to squeeze in a ride after work! The worst part about winter weather is even when we happen to get a warm enough day to go riding, it gets dark less than 2 hours after I get home from work anyway.

Haha, I think my brain was out of adjustment, because I saw it as soon as I opened this thread again, and the first thing I thought was "oh no, that bike is orange, I complimented him on it being red, I bet I got called out on it..." haha

I loooove riding in the rain, not sure why, I always have. You've gotta have the right gear for it, it's not good if your feet are soaked and your pants are sticking to your skin, but if you can get yourself waterproofed you can ride around in this little bubble of dryness while it's pouring around you, kind of surreal. I also love driving in the rain, I guess it's the same principle. I don't really like driving in normal conditions, and I hate driving at night, but throw rain into either of those and I'm perfectly happy.

Usually these bridges are made of wood. The roof and walls protect the bridge from the elements so that it will last longer. It's easier to put a new roof on a bridge than to build a whole new bridge. That's my take anyways

Dmartins is right- They found they would get many decades more longevity out of them versus uncovered bridges.

Is this in areas where is snows?

We have wooden bridges down here and they just replace the hardwood boards as needed. But it doesn't snow on them.

Because that's how the make covered bridges?? haha it's weird when you're just so used to seeing things that you never bother to question them(as I did in this situation).

Come to think of it...it's the only covered bridge anywhere around here. And no, we hardly get any snow. A foot of snow would shut us down for a week (like it did last year). Atlanta just doesn't have the resources to get the roads cleared off and our drivers...if you can call them that...suck so bad they can't even drive on a little snow.

We've had an unusually warm winter this year. One day it'll be 65-75°, the next it will be below freezing. We've had TONS of rain which sucks because it'll get really warm and then right when you think you're able to go for a ride...it starts raining. Then, after that, it gets super cold and the cycle starts all over again. So it's really just deciding whether to risk getting rained on or take the bike out when it's 35-40° F..
