Okay, before I go running up to the salvage yard to take back the wrong shims I got.
Wanna know if there is any local stores that would Most likely have a wide variety of shims in stock.

There is one dealer nearby I will stop at but that is probably my Only best bet that I can come up with if the salvage yard doesnt have what I need.

Asking now because I dont wanna go running to only 2 places.
come home and see other options and possibly have to go running all around again wasting gas.
yeah a phone call will suffice, but I would still have to run out again.

just wanna get my options covered.

and getting shims Right Now is quite the priority.
ordering online is a last resort at this point in time.

The dealer is your your best option - not in the parts department but likely in the service department ,you'll have to ask for them in parts tho . I'm friends with the techs  at my local place---when I need shims I can usually just exchange a few . It's not often I need to- have a small pile here from all the bikes I've done though the pile ( variety ) is getting smaller...

Good luck

EDIT:
The shims are 29.5 mm Diameter...take your micrometer with you.

When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.

my not-so-local SUzuki dealer has a lot of shims...all "used"...all thrown into a box.....you have to stand there and sort thru them to find the size you need..they are marked, usually, but often don't measure what they are marked....some are beat to heell, some look nice..

They charge $15 per shim ..used......

You can buy new on itnernet for about $6 or $7 per shim....

Local bike shops were of no help as the GS 500 diameter is not so common to the bikes they work on...

I went to he dealership last time I needed shims and it was a huge waste of money. It was $45 for 3 shims when I could've bought a whole hotcams kit for $65. I'll never make that mistake again!

I can buy shims. Then return the used ones and get money back minus $1.
I can take shims in and trade them for $1.
If I need something NOW, I can expect to pay extra. If I need a shim NOW to be riding tonight, then $15 a shim might not be so bad. If I need shims for a future valve adjustment, then I can wait and order a $65 kit to save money.
It all depends on how quickly you need a part.

Last company I used:  http://www.newmotorcycleparts.com/motor_parts/valve_shims.html  Shipping took about a week.

I robbed Jared's 2.65's last weekend, cheaper and faster

hahaha appreciate the thought tho  :thumb:

hopefully these work tho hahaha!!  :cookoo:

intake had 265s and one was tight.
exhaust had 260s and one was tight.

so I think one of the 260s from the exhaust will be good for the tight intake from 265.
and the 255 will be good for the exhaust.

but I had to buy 250s and extras just incase it doesnt work out exactly like that.

just hope I dont need even thinner hahaha doubtful tho
