Hey guys,
I spent all morning researching this forum for "bogging". My 1990 GS 500 has been running fine since purchase (Dec. 2011 - 15,000 miles) and recently did engine related maintenance (oil, valve check, air filter), but this morning it started to "bog". Here is the list of symptoms:

- filled gas tank up 50 miles ago
- starts up and idles fine
- throttle response is good in neutral
- when I accelerate from start I get very litte power
- when i shift to second or third gear i still receive very little acceleration
- for a split second it accelerated and then hesitated/bogged down and got backfire

All and all the engine sounds just fine, but I could not accelerate like normal. The bike was behaving normal yesterday, but something was just not right this morning. Before I dig into the carbs, needles, etc., does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a somewhat similar problem, and have been advised that it may be due to a vacuum pipe coming loose from the carbs..

Before you start ripping your tank off there is a couple of simple things to eliminate . check battery terminals are tight .nextcheck spark plugs are in tight and the caps are pushed on properly .that should cover simple electrics .now check petrol hasnt got water in it by draning carbs into a container ,look for globules of water in it .these things check out ok? not these?, now look at vac lines.i have had simmilar problems and its always been water in the fuel nothing else.
