So for a couple days, after every ride there has been a small puddle of oil (or i think it is). Upon inspection, it was leaking from where the shift lever connects to the bike. I finally found time today and opened the sprocket cover up and godddddd damnnnnnnnn, the amount of gunk in there was unbelievable. (srry no pics). Dont think it's been everrrr cleaned. But after cleaning it out, the source of the leak it APPEARS to be coming from the shaft of the shift lever thing?

not my bike but it gets the point across.

Any thoughts?

Is it actually leaving a puddle on the ground or just leaking? Sometimes the built up chain lube in the front sprocket area leaks out and gives the impression of an oil leak. Clean it all up, ride it for a week and see if it is still doing it.

For sure its not continuous, just after every ride i see a puddle when i come back to the bike. Maybe when i shift andn move the  lever, it squirts a bit out. Yea i didnt do anything else to it but clean it, lets see if it continues to leak.

Mine leaks also it started after a a drop to the ground on the left side, thought the damn kickstand was down but of course it wasn't.
I get a little puddle near the left side, pretty sure it's the shift shaft seal that got damaged in the fall.Recieved a new seal today, going to replace once the weather warms and see if that fixes it.,

I had a similar dribble, but not specifically from the shift lever, but under the left side somewhere. Last time I changed my oil, I loosened the bolts on that side slightly and re-torqued to the specs. I haven't had a leak since. I was about ready to put a new gasket on that side, and am glad I didn't have to. (yet)

I just took a short ride and yup, it continues to leak. I did more research and it may be a problem with the seal on the shift shaft. Heard its cheap to fix, no idea how though.

If it has a sulfer/bitter/rancid smell it's oil. If it's a bit sweet smelling or something else, it's chain lube.

9 times out of 10 the "oil leaks from shift lever" turn out to be chain lube coming out. Not doubting you but make triple sure.

Can you take a picture of the offending puddle? How big is it? If it's just a few little dribbles I really wouldn't worry about it. Seems like these things leak oil in one place or another - I know my 97 leaks oil from around the tachometer drive. It's just the life of an air-cooled motor.
