Clutch adjustment

Popped in the new friction disks today: Side note the steel disks were discolored and a glazed but i hit them with 800 grit and they look new-ish, hopefully it will hold for now: anyhow my question is on the clutch adjustment.

I read the article about replacing the clutch, forgot who wrote it up, and i adjusted the first adjuster on the side of the engine ( turn it in until it starts to bite then 1/4 out. But how do you adjust the second one on top of the case correctly? is there a rule of thumb?
My bike isn't leaking oil, it's just marking its territory.

First turn in the adjustment at the clutch lever all the way and lock down the thumb wheel and leave it there for future clutch freeplay adjustments.  Then unlock and turn the other end of the clutch cable into the front sprocket housing until there is way too much clutch lever freeplay to make sure the little lever inside is relaxed to it's stop position. Then make the clutch rod 1/4" freeplay adlustment under the little two screw cover on the side of the housing.  When the rod freeplay adjustment is complete and locked then make the final clutch lever freeplay adjustment by turning the cable back out of the front sprocket housing to give proper clutch lever freeplay at the bars and lock it down.  Done.

if i can remember the service manual said for the release adjustment to be either 1/4 or 1/2 turn out..what difference would it make in relation to the engagement of the clutch if the adjustment screw was either turned more in or out? and at what point would i know when to stop at the right point of resistance? is it right when i feel resistance i stop or go past a little further? its hard cause my left hand is my strong hand so i feel like theres some variable between my two hands of finding the right resistance lol! but can someone clear this up for me  :dunno_black:

Manual states 1/4 - 1/2 turn out from feeling resistance
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

im just trying to get a better understanding of the release mechanism itself but what difference does the adjustment make if the screw is turned either more in or more out? if the screw is turned more out does the clutch engage sooner or is it the other way around??

If it was the clutch adjustment on a car/truck, the screw turned all the way in would be Zero Free Play at pedal, clutch yoke riding on throw-out bearing, any tighter and the clutch will start slipping.
Opposite would be too many turns out, clutch pedal goes to floor, but does not have enough travel to fully release clutch, gears grind because the input shaft of the trany is still spinning at the speed of the engine.

With any luck this won't confuze you anymore?

the manual lists the procedure for adjustment but not how it works so thank you for clearing that up for me man. if it rains this weekend ill have something to do  :thumb:
