Carb Stock Arrangement: Washer under needle??

I opened my carbs this weekend in order to change the jets and also to add a washer under the needle.

Among other things, I found an existing metal washer under the needle.

Looking at the fiche on-line, there doesn;t appear to be ANY metal washer there from the factory.

The stock order of parts on the needle (looking a the fiche) appears to be:  Spring seat, e-clip, plastic donut spacer, and that's it.

Already in my carbs, I have: Spring seat, e-clip, plastic donut spacer, metal washer.

Can someone confirm my thoughts that this washer has been added in by some previous work??
I don;t want to add another if it's already been modified.

Thanks,
Step

have there been any modifications to the bike. eg. slip on, air filter anything at all.

89-00 doesn't have a washer anywhere near the needle.
The 01+ has a washer on top of the e clip. Its is a good candidate for putting under the clip.
So if you got 1 under the clip, its been shimmed up. You can let it be ... however if you're still lean on the needle - that's why you're shimming the needle aren't you ... then you could add another washer or maybe go up on the mains 1 size.
Heck do +1 on pilots too, that's what the jetting formula calls for on a stock bike.
Cool.

Thanks for the replies.  I just wanted some confirmation.
The bike is a 1994.

Yeah.  I am in there to fatten it up.

Got 40 pilots and 125 mains to replace the stock jets.
Found a lot of good info from this site.

I think the previous guy put the washers in and had the idle mix at about 4 turns out, but he didn;t change the jets.

Bike is all stock, so I think they were just trying to make it a little better.
They should've changed the air filter with the money they saved on jets.  :icon_rolleyes:
