Petcock situation

Ok so my bike was running uber lean so I decided to rejet it and add a lunchbox. So I did, and after sorting out some O-ring issues I am left with my bike that only runs on prime and leaks gas out the air filter. The previous owner removed the vacuum stuff so the only way it gets gas is when its in the prime position. From searching I'm sure the reason its pissing gas is a float problem, but since its always on prime will I always have problems with it leaking gas? It isn't meant to be run on prime all the time so should I get a different petcock or try and replace the missing vacuum stuff? Also if I start tinkering with the floats will I have to sync the carbs or do anything else?

The PO couldn't have permanently boogered up the vacuum line.
Just run another. It comes from the LEFT carb on 89-00 and RIGHT carb on 2004+.
Simple - run hose from carb to petcock. Probably he left it open on the carb or put a rubber cap on it.
You might need a new petcock, which is easy to get - which could be why he took of the vacuum line or he was an idiot and didn't know it was supposed to be connected.
All that's missing is a single hose!

Ok wow I feel stupid...  according to this diagram

The vacuum line from the frame petcock is ran to the upper T-connection, and the vent hose that should go to the upper T-connection is missing and the vacuum port on the left carb is just left open. I will move the vacuum hose back to where it should be and see if it works!

I'd have to go look again but.....

There is an upper T connection that goes nowhere - it is just a vent and sometimes there is a small air filter on it.
As I recall, the petcock goes directly to the left carb.

That is probably the problem - the PO though something should go to the T and connected it there rather than to the carb.

Go here for good diagrams of hose routing. You'll see that top "T: connects nowhere - it is just a vent. Prtcock is all that goes to the left carb.

I just moved the line from that upper T to the left carb and Wow it runs great now!  :woohoo: I might get a piece of hose and maybe a small filter to put on that carb breather port but I will have to go enjoy riding it more before I tear it apart again... Now that it runs right I just need to fix my oil leak. Thanks for the help Adidas

Most carbs - that T ends there .Nothing on it. Don't worry about it.
Glad you're working!

I love karma corn!
