You can get away with no sealant but you may be running a gauntlet there. It's always a good idea to use something, even a light smear of grease. A tube of loctite gasket sealant is a few dollars so don't skimp and be sure
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

if u use anything keep it away from oil passages on bottom. Silicone and bearings don't get along well.

Clutch cover gasket!? Don't use a sealant. I like to use a thin layer of grease.

Clean the surfaces of the engine and cover thoroughly... I like to use a mild gasket remover/solvent so that I don't have to be so aggressive removing the gasket material -- less risk of damage to the casings. The grease helps keep the new gasket from from sticking to the cover, dramatically increasing the chances it can be re-used the next time you remove the cover.

Ok thats what i thought the PO looks like he used both, so i was wondering. but that's the same ass who f-ed the clutch. i did see in the haynes manual that it says to put a little grease on the seal. so thats what i'll do, replacement clutch should be here tues or wed.

Sorry, is this for the clutch shaft seal? Not as sure what to use there. I thought you meant the paper gasket. :)

Yeah put a smear of grease on both sides of the gasket itself and the seal. While its out replace the seal with another genuine one as well while its all out. I used loctite 515 and no issues at all, I love the stuff. I call it plum jam.
