Rode my friends inline-4 Friday night(Triumph Speed Four), it's the same exact bike I used to own, so it wasn't anything new, but man I forgot how glorious some bikes feel haha. My yz426 is still more fun, but the Triumph is just sooo smooth it's ridiculous. I hate the term crotch rocket, but every time I'm on his bike that's the only reference I can think of. There's no grumbling or shaking like my buell or YZ have, you can barely even feel the engine running, you can just feel the bike wanting to go faster and faster.

It's been probably 5 years since I've had an I4, and I know people here swear the GS is all the bike you need, but I'm thinking about trying to find another. I just got my tax return, gotta sell the yz I bought last fall to borrow the motor from, and should have a rebate check coming from the furnace I bought over winter. The responsible thing to do would be to pay some stuff off, but I'm really tempted to pick up another street bike to fill in the gaps the supermoto doesn't cover. My plan this past summer was to buy another street bike after I sold the Buell, but I pretty much managed to just spend that money haha.

I could have an awesome time on something like this..... http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/2902928988.html

You americans are a bunch  of softcocks, always going on about the wind on naked bikes. I've got a whole ship load of cement so you can all harden up. :flipoff:

You don't see any aussies on here complaining about the wind. You guys must have air like peasoup.  :dunno_black:

Tt... Whenever I seed those old style odos with that age I think they have been around the clock.

Those old Fireblades go forever though.

I'm starting to eye off f800r's, monsters, 919's, and street triples
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Forget the f800s and striples. Ozzy loves them and a lot of people buy them cause He Says. One guy got a S3 cause Ozzy said how good they were, then when Ozzy got his S1, this bloke decided the S3 was no good and was seriously looking for an S1. Then when Ozzy got his f800 this guy decided he'd get an f800 instead of the S1. I see a lot of people buy what Ozzy says  :icon_rolleyes: :icon_rolleyes:

I got the 919 because it was...

Naked
Comfortable
Retro-ish looking (not like a modern naked like a z750 with odd looking front)
Water cooled (already had an air cooled bike)
Handled well

Who's Ozzy? I'd buy a a speed triple if I found a good deal on one. The newer ones look gorgeous, but I'd consider one of the ones from around 2000 for the right price. The 955i bikes from 2002+ with that japanese style tail were a visual disaster though. I loved the Speed Four I had, just wanted more power, so I'm sure a speed triple would be a good fit.

I've always had naked bikes, the speed four was naked with clipons, then the Buell xb was naked with the mx bars. Obviously the yz is naked as you can get haha, I can't really imagine myself on a bike with a fairing, except for one of the first two generations of cbr600rr, those bikes were gorgeous, the current ones don't do anything for me.

Yama- the price is probably a little high, but he seems pretty willing to sell, I would've tried to haggle him down to about $1800-1900. I'd love to find a naked 929 or 954, but I'd be happy with a 954. My top picks would be a TL1000s, gsxr750, or one of the earlier R1s though, Z1000 even. I'm not picky though, I'll take what I can get because I'm gonna be cheap about it.

tt_four

and yes, speedo and gauges would have to go...

same year and same price, but definitely beat on a little harder. The swingarm and exhaust are a nice tough though http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/2892840804.html

I wouldn't say no to the new Street Triple. It needs to have the headlight cowl though otherwise the lights just look wrong. It feels weird sitting on one though as the lights stay straight when you turn the bars and it feels as if you re looking over the front wheel. Things I could get used to.

tt_four

I've always felt the opposite, hated the triumph flyscreens and liked them better without. When I had my speed four I bought one of the speedometer covers from a speed triple and used it instead of my flyscreen. Not the best picture but I'm at work and it's the only one I have access to....

I did always think it was weird that the lights on the triples stayed still while the gauges and flyscreen moved with the bars. Would look better if they were all mounted on the bars. If you think the Triumph feels weird like you're looking over the front wheel, you should try a Buell XB. The seat to handlebar distance is a whole 5 inches shorter than on the GS. That airbox cover is way shorter than a normal motorcycle tank and you're way over the front end. You definitely get used to it. When I'm on other bikes I always feel like I'm sitting over the rear wheel and reaching way too for forward, even with upright bars like the GS has.

steezin_and_wheezin

I can't wait to have a second road ready bike again. The DRZ is awesome, but the GS is calling my name and all i can do it ride her around the backyard haha
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

It was crazy how small it felt too. When I think of streetbikes now I think of these huge bikes that weigh so much, but I just sat over it with both feet on the ground and remembered it's not so bad haha. I'm so used to only being able to balance on my yz with my left toes. I can't even get one foot on the ground, let alone both.

Is it wrong that I want an old GPZ

As a guy with a 1982 GPZ750R1 (not the turbo), I can tell you that the bike looks better than any modern sportbike, is more comfortable than any modern sportbike, and performs worse than any modern sportbike.  Yes, for $3k you can buy one, repaint everything, and replace all wear items, but for the same money you can purchase the better performing modern equivalent, the ZRX-1200 or ZRX-1100.

I was going to ask you if you meant the ZX1100 from 95 or whatever year they made that bike. GPZ1100 - from what I heard they were really great bikes but didn't sell well. I see them on Craigslist from time to time for dirt freaking cheap - I wouldn't own one, though, because the support for them is next to non-existent. I know that Kiwi makes some pretty decent motors but...I know there were also issues with one of the cylinders not getting enough oil sometimes.  :dunno_black:

I finally cured my second bike itch by coming to terms with the fact that neither the Ninja 600 or Katana 600/1100 I've got in the back garage would be back in roadworthy shape in anything resembling the near future and bought another GS.  (First bike I owned was a brand new '89.  Thanks Suzuki First Time Buyers program!)

Hopefully this will lower the yearly tire cost for my 1994 CBR900RR, as I had to commute on it as well as Sunday ride it last summer.
If you can't be a good example, at least try to be a horrible reminder.

I have yet to own a bike with a windshield or fairing.  My touring bike (XS750) came with a Windjammer but it wasn't on the bike when I bought it and it's sitting in in the basement where it belongs.  I never understood the wind complaining either unless you're touring hundreds of miles.  Dress for the weather!

However, I may at some point buy a faired bike if I like it enough, but it won't be because it has a fairing.  I was recently checking-out a CBR250 and it's a pretty sweet little bike!
