Loving the underseat exhaust and colour combination, look forward to seeing what other changes you make

Very nice. The newer pictures don't seem to be there any more. Any chance of still seeing the updated work?

@Mab - how did you mount the stock turn signals on the Dominator headlight? Looks like you just drilled the right size hole through the fork bracket? I wanted/want to do that to mine, but it looked like there wouldn't be enough room. I ended up making some brackets that go on the brake line retainer clip bolt on the right and speedo cable on the left.

@Doug - the Dominators definitely need new bulbs. The ones they come with are not so great. I have Silverstars in mine right now. Lots of light output and the angle for low/high beam is good, but the side-to-side spread leaves something to be desired. It's an issue going around sharper turns at night, the beams don't illuminate the road very well as you are coming up to the turn. HOWEVER, I wouldn't call it dangerous. You just need to be driving somewhat near the speed limit and it won't be much of a problem.

@Mab re: headlight draw - Just get Silverstar bulbs like I did, and it will only be 6 months to a year until the low beam burns out in one of them. Then you have a single low beam/dual high beam like you wanted!  I recently got that "upgrade" given to me by the overpriced headlight gods.

I mounted the directionals by drilling the dominater mounts with a 3/8" drill and wiggled it around some till things fit. I believe the directional bolts were 10mm.
As far as the headlight bulbs go, I put 35w in, I'm using a shorei lithium iron battery and the draw of the two 55w bulbs was more than I was comfortable with.
I don't ride at night so not an issue, if I had to I'd just do it and pray a little, just need lights for visability and inspection.

What exactly did you do with that tail. Did you have to weld the subframe. I've always wanted to do this on Flick but I cannot weld due to a pacemaker defibrillator

Toogoofy317,
The tail is a 2001 R1 race tail I picked up on ebay. There are no bolt/screw holes in the tail as purchased, so you can put them where needed to some extent.
The only modification to the sub frame was to cut off the passenger peg braces.
We did have to make some round threaded inserts out of drill rod, drill through the frame, and weld in the inserts to hold the tail on to the frame.
The same could be accomplished by just drilling through the frame without the inserts and use a through bolt, washers, and a nut but we were afraid of the tail splitting or cracking (fiberglass).
Perhaps using a piece of steel tubing through the drilled hole in the frame would be adequate instead of a threaded, welded in insert.

The only other modification I've made to date is the fuel delivery system.
If you look at the last image of the bike, I've got a motion pro on/off valve on the fuel line from the tank and a quick disconnect between that and the carbs so I have no leaks when I have to pull the tank off.
I have a straight shot from the tank to the carbs so I needed the on/off and the quick dissconect.
I'm thinking of going up one tooth on the drive sprocket.
Right now it's two down and fairly frisky if you jump on it.

One more question Mab - where on the bracket did you drill? Mine looks like this (top down view):

on the forward part, looks like there wouldn't be enough clearance with the headlight bucket, center part is sloped, so the lights would be raked back, and not enough clearance with the fork clamps to the rear.

am i missing something, or are your brackets different?  thanks for the help with this silly question!

It looks like you have different brackets than I have. Yours look like the ones with the rubber sleeve to snug up on the forks.
Mine came with the Dominator headlights, they're kind of cheap but work out fine.
I don't want to tell you to drill what you have and make a mess of it for you.
I'll get some close ups of my setup and put them up here so you can compare.

Don't worry, I won't listen to any bad advice  :D

If you don't mind putting up pictures, that would be great. Looks like it might just not work with my brackets.

Thanks!

I like your bike a lot. I wish I could get mine to look as good as that. I just think I'm too impatient to get everything as nice as that.

We took about nine months just pecking away at it.
Part of the time was spent waiting for parts, cutting and welding little pieces to secure the seat, tail section, building/modifying the battery box for the tiny Shorei battery.
Stripping, sanding, painting. Mocking up the parts to make sure things fit and funtioned.
Just kind of taking our time going as fast as possible, trying to get it right.
Fudging here and there.
The biggest pain was the fuel delivery system, lots of trial and error getting a free flowing system that wouldn't deprive the carbs of fuel at any speed. Hard to believe all the conveluted hoses and valves the stock bike had. Who the heck thought that up ?
Finally just went straight from the tank to the carbs via a quick disconnect and manual shutoff.
Anyway, take your time, they're never really finished anyway :)
