hmm...  sounds a little similar to how I got mine, but it was not originally priced bottom dollar...

It was sold to me by the owner's father in Decatur, and the owner lived out of state, and had previously been out of the country...

How it went:  Owner got back into states and settled, located the title and signed it. He then sent the signed title to his father who was storing the bike.  Owner's father sold it to the first person who offered the lowest price point in his range with cash(happened to be me  ;))  ... received bill of sale along with matching signed title and bike (checked the vin, mileage, and other DMV history before handing over cash of course).  I had absolutely no issues with the transaction or title transfer.

Obviously you should be cautious going in, check all numbers match, look up DMV history, go with at least one other person, keep cash on the DL and say you'll do money order... etc, etc.. just use your common sense!

What's your process for checking the VIN, mileage and DMV history?

BockinBboy

I got the VIN and called the DMV, told the lady I was going to look at the bike and wanted to ensure the title was clear and check last known owner was the same as person selling... It took about 10mins, even with the irritated lady at the DMV.  She told me there it was clear with no leans, and all previous registration dates with mileage when ownership transferred.  I can't remember if she actually gave the names on it though  :dunno_black:  I remember noticing the names of the father and son selling were Jr/Sr though, so I wasn't worried once I heard everthing else matched up...  Just made sure the VIN I had checked on was the same as the VIN on the bike when I got there, and the same VIN on the actual title of course.

Arnold) . Only possibility i see. Ask to see bike in person, and all questions answered.

I got the VIN.  He says its a Pennsylvania title because it was transferred there in 2006.

BockinBboy

I'd be checking records in Pennsylvania if possible and the areas its posted on CL for.

no problem on title, it's clear and in Illinois can be signed over by a family member.  I'm back in the US now, TN.

Interesting...this actually seems like it might be legit.  Anyone have experience with a scam that seemed like this?
Worth looking into for sure. Don't bring cash!

I found this while cruising local adds... it's interesting, but looks as if someone should have bought a gsxr rather then spent that money on a gs500. It's very nice though.

I have that same sticker in my garage waiting for the right exhaust haha, got it from thailand for 1.00$ shipped

It really is a hot looking bike. I may disagree with "very fast" description, but it is a good paint job.

Love to see how the fairing was installed. Knowing that would open up lots of possibilities for us. Someone in MCY please take a look at it.
