Who jetted a 2002 GS and is happy?

I need to take apart the carbs, since my choke is not working properly and it's getting impossible to start when it's below 40 degrees. I might as well re-jet.  I'm not in the mood to experiment in the winter-time.  If anyone has done it I would appreciate the details.  I don't care about any additional power, I'm more interested in getting rid of the cold bloodiness.  I'm willing to give it to my dealer to do it but I want to make sure he is pointed in the proper direction.  All the jetting they have done has been on older models and I don't want to be his guinea pig.

The idea is the same but the part numbers are different - go up one on the pilot jet - its a bleed type 17.5 stock - go to a 20.

There is a mid-range jet in the 2001 and up carbs - do not remember the size off hand - several people have indicated that going up one or more sizes solves flat spot - the effect should be similar to raising the needle - do a search on jetting matrix in the archives and you will see what has been said.  I raised the needles and left the mid-jet alone.

For the main jet - if you are leaving everything else stock, I found that going up two sizes from stock 127.5 jets to 132.5's was a big improvement.  If you are putting in a low restriction air filter then you need to go up a few more sizes - I ended up at 142.5 with K&N pod filters.  Foam filters or a K&N in the airbox would be smaller than that.  I found the effect of the air filter to be much greater than the effect of a slip-on muffler both on noise and power.  The slip-on required a further increase in main jet - I believe that I am at a 150 currently and am still getting good milage (50-ish if I am just going on the highway and staying with traffic - alright passing most traffic)  Make sure that you take out the plugs over the idle mixture screw on both carbs as you will need to adjust these for the best idle etc.

The Antibody

My 2002 has been jetted and it starts up like a dream. I don't even touch the choke anymore. I love it. I am not a mechanic myself. A friend of mine performed the jetting while I worked on other things like my exaust, handlebars, air/oil filter, and such. It is completely worth it. Also, don't forget to get an aftermarket exaust and airfilter too.

Thanks for the info.  I'm going to try something soon.  I'll let everyone know how it goes.
