Replacing stator cover, what should I expect?

Hey guys, I just bought a 05 gs500F and when I was pulling off the fairings I noticed a crack in the stator cover  so the new cover just arrived and I plan on replacing it this weekend.

Is there anything I should prepare for while doing this? Anything I should check while the cover is off?

It's pretty straight forward if you're following the manual.

Remove sprocket cover, there are 2 bolts hidden behind it, and get a hand held razor to scrape off the old gasket. Installing the new gasket put a little bit of oil on it to help it stick to the new case better. When you remove/tighten the bolts, do them on opposite sides and when you're putting the case on, knock it flush a few times to make sure it's flat.

I believe the OP stated the stator cover will be replaced with a new one.
Since I just replaced mine yesterday i'll give my 2 cents.
1.Take off the cover as stated in previous post
2.Pry the case off but take caution as the stator is bolted to the case. The stator itself is bolted down by 3 philips head screws, there are also 2 little retaining clips and 1 larger retaining clip also held down by philips head screws that hold the wires for the stator in place.Remove the screws and swap the stator into the new case,Keep the orientation of the stator in the same position going into the new case. The hardest part of this operation was getting the phillips head screws loose as they strip easily,I finally gave up on the screwdrivers and grabbed a channel-locks pliers and gripped the head of the screw and gave them a twist and they broke free.
3.Once stator is assembled in new case put gasket on case,a light coating of oil on gasket will help hold in place.
4.Also worth noting, there is a  metal pin shaft that holds the idle reduction gear in place, this will come off when you first removed the case and will probably be stuck in the case. When you put the case back on first take the pin -shaft and  put in the hole in the idle reduction gear as it holds that gear in place, you may have to wiggle it and move the gear slightly to get the pin in all the way.I forgot to put this pin in after I bolted the case in and had to unbolt everything-not fun- :icon_sad:
5-Once you see everything its fairly simple,it only took about 2 hrs time.
6.Afterwards take for a spin and check for leaks,so far so good on mine ,have not spotted a leak as of this writing.

I had to replace the starter clutch on mine about a month ago.  The gasket was caked on really well.  When you bought the new cover did you get a new gasket? I ended up using a Dremel tool with a polishing bit to get it all off.  If you try it, make sure you cover as much of the internals as you can to avoid getting gasket bits everywhere.

The screws are likely JIS screws - try an impact driver if you can get it in there.
