Have any of you GS500 riders had knee replacements?

I was just wondering if any of you GS500 riders have had knee replacements?  If yes, you still find the GS500 comfortable?  I've had both of my knees replaced and that is the one thing I worry about.  I'll find out shortly after I get back to Michigan the first time I sit on one.  I may have to drop the foot pegs 1".  Ride safe my friends.

Not yet, my hips are getting bad and my spline even worse but I'm putting off on replacement parts for as long as I can.  Afraid it will end my riding.  I'm now 4" shorter than I was just a few years ago but I still find the GS500 to be comfortable.  You could be the 2nd oldest guy here, I had to dig back thru your posts to catch your age.  My grandchildren are older than most of the guys/gals here I think but none of them ride.  My greatgrandchildren call me biker.   :icon_lol:  Good luck with your GS500.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

No knee problems but I just had arthroscopic on my shoulder. I'm hoping it helps enough to ride this season. I'll most likely be needing a shoulder replacement sooner than I'd like. BTW I'm 57 and have had shoulder trouble for 30+ years, rotator cuff is mostly gone and the long head biceps tendon is also gone. Amazingly I still have good function of my arm but it sure can hurt at times.

Best of luck with the new knees :thumb:

Bud - you had a 185? What year and model. I just got a mint 1973 TS185. Do you still have it?

Adidasguys, I think my 185 Suzuki was between 1969 and 1971.  They came in red and white of blue and white.  I forget the exact year but I know I am close.  I put an oversized sprocket on the back of it.  Top speed was only 50MPH but it sure got up there fast.  One of my favorite movies is "On Any Sunday".  Malcom (sp?) Smith is in the movie.  He was one of the best trials riders in the world.  He was from CA.  Once I raced a 450 Husky that cams out of Malcom Smiths bike shop new.  I'm on my 185 Suzuki going into a dirt s curve.  I got ahead of him and power slid through the entire curve and was first out of it.  Once out of the curve and on a straight a way he came by me like I was standing still, but I beat him through the curve.  I sure did love that 185.  Rode her hard to and she held up very well.  Ride safe my friend.

gsJack, I've been told a hip replacement is easier than a knee replacement.  There is a good chance the hip replacement will not mean the end to your riding.  I have no more pain in my knees but the new knees are nothing like the old one.  No lore running and jumping for me.  Now it is very hard for me to lose weight.  My second wife is younger than I am and she makes me feel 20 years younger than I am.  I still have a weight problem but I feel pretty good.  Riding motorcycles is one of my favorite things to do and my wife loves coming with me.  I can't wait to get my GS500F.  Ride safe my friend.

dam, I had my knees replaced in 2005.  I get around slowly but good.  No pain at all.  Now if I could just get rid of 30 or 40 pounds I'd be all set.  I hope all works out well with your shoulder problem.  There is a very good chance it will.  Ride safe my friend.

You should try stationary bike or work out in a pool. low stress on joints, and a hell of a work out.

No knee, but I am getting a hip arthoscopy soon, total hip is gonna be in a few years. I can't wait to stop being in pain getting on an off the bike, doesn't hurt any other time.  O0
