Ignition Coil Question

I think one of my ignition coils is slowly dying, and on top of it the spark wires seems to shock me when I go to unplug them from the block while running...

Instead of replacing them with stock, which would have a permanently affixed spark plug wires, and it WILL eventually die... How about...

You replace it with 2 of these

Standard coil packs, easy to wire up, You can relocate them to the rear of the bike, or somewhere away from the hot engine, and you can relay the stock positive coil lead directly to the battery...

What resistance are the stock coils? Personally, I would replace them with some Dyna coils from Z1:

Dyna is generally known as the best aftermarket coil, and Z1 usually has the lowest prices on them.

According to this, the top of the coils to ground is the spark wire...

Orange/white should be positive, being they are a shared connection.
White would be the negative trigger for the left hand coil
Black/yellow would be the negative trigger for the right hand coil

Am I correct in my assumptions?

If I was to get a duralast coil (14.99 @ autozone), orange/white would go to +, and white (or black/yellow) would go to -

Or, do I got this wrong?

That sounds right to me, but you need to find the resistance of each coil (stock and replacement). They are supposed to be within 10% of each other.

And why exactly do you think your coils are dying? Coils fail at high temps (usually after 30 minutes of riding) and will miss fire at high rpm (around 9000). There is a procedure to check them in the service manual.

If it's the coil wires that are buggered, there are ways to replace them and the boots. The plug wires are tough, but it's possible.

...Wouldn't that mean that your loosing spark to ground points, and not at the plug?
