...well it wasn't classified as an accident because their was no vehicular collision.  Just me and the pavement.

I made a right-hand turn at a streetlight and some lady decided to make a left-hand turn right in front of me.  The front brake locked and before I knew it, I was sliding on my left side.  I was going <35 mph so i did not slide to far.  Got some gnarly roadrash on my forearm and knees though.

it really sucked though, I am so mad at myself for crashing because I know how to stop properly in a situation like that.

The bike's left is moderately scratched and it still rides.  The mirror, barend, turn signals, crank cover, and side plastic are scratched and the handlebars may be bent.

I'm such a cad. I should have seen it was your first post. glad you survived your encounter with pavement, and welcome to the board. As Keyzer said, wish your first post was under better circumstances.

Ya this is my first post, but I come here often.

I was going on a short trip to get gasoline so I did not wear my padded jacket.  I had on a helmet. sweatshirt, and pants.  The sweatshirt has a hole in the shoulder from where I skid, and the pant knees are almost gone.

I have no idea how my knees sustained the most damage, I do not think I rolled, and I ended up on my back.

Thanks for carin' guys!

Bummer man.  Been there so I sympathse.  :(

Glad it wasn't any worse. You'll heal, the bike can be fixed.

Yeah it could have been worse, damn left turners!

If chicks really do dig scars, then I must be the shiznits!  ;)
Common sense in not very common.

I was thinking about how you land on your back in a lowside, and you probably would need to roll over once, or your butt and back would have gotten chewed up by the pavement.  Usually the pointy bits hit the pavement first, then you slide on the flat parts.  My friend still gets the shivers when he remembers me lowsiding.

I hope you recover quickly and get the bike back in action... It's good to have a new member, even if the circumstances aren't the greatest.   :)

ps. didn't gym class teach you that sweat pants/shirt doesn't protect against anything?  I can't recall how many holes were made due to me sliding on a smooth gym floor.  That'll learn ya... short trips still require gear  :nono:

hey. i remeber reading about a guy in auburn alabama (my state). he got some gas and didnt have enough cash. he went home and left his friend at the station. he decided to hop on his bike squidstyle. well he flew by and trucker. according to the trucker he ws goin well over 100mph. (yea yea. i know you werent goin 150.) but he left his house and didnt come home for another 27 days. Hospital bill-high 45s, x1000. he decided to put up his gear after that. so thats a good lesson. if i can find the link ill post it here.

There's one webpage where the guy has in detail, all the injuries he got during an accident cause he wasn't wearing equipment.  Lots of pics too.  Google is failing me  :(  I think it may have actually been linked to in one of the posts here.

Don't talk to me about hospital bills today.  I is one grumpy hombre  :x

Once you get the skin well-cleaned (ouch!), and it starts to scab-over, you can help prevent scars by mushing-up vitamin E gel-caps and spreading that on the skin.  I've heard that this treatment has made a huge difference in bicycle racing circles, in reducing the amount of permanent scarring from roadrash.
